FARM FRIENDS:) It's the last week of OU's annual fundraising and we have a BIG ASK for our supporters! Please make a donation to the Campus Student Organic Farm by Dec 6th.

Our Grizz Greens donations to the Growing Grizzlies Pantry and ALL of the many farm activities we have posted this year are the product of the many student hands we depend on! Our interns and student crew have been amazing! It's good for us and it's good for them.....great leadership and team-building experience that often has helped them get great jobs after graduation.....Our student crew is NOT supported by OU funding, so it all depends on our produce sales (not nearly enough to pay our farmhands) and YOUR donations to us! THANK YOU!

Our Halloween Horror Story - Most of the remaining covering of our BIG hoophouse blew off~ We were counting on that still-covered end for weather protection while awaiting the re-covering of the whole structure. Before we built the hoophouse extension we were perfectly capable of covering and changing the plastic, as we did in 2018 (below)....However, with the elongated structure and the need for adding double layers of plastic, along with automated venting, we needed to outsource the job.....that, we find, has added a lot of red tape! We now have a contractor, but still waiting to get the job done....hopefully this will happen before the snow flies! Fortunately so far the weather is working in our favor:) pantry

Today - on International Food Day - we celebrated our first partial season growing in our new Salad Palace hoophouse, which was generously funded by the OU Student Congress. Our "triple ribbon" was cut by our OU Student Congress Sustainability Director, our Student Farm Manager, and the President of the Growing Grizzlies student club. This hoophouse will be largely dedicated to growing crops that are most easily used by students - cherry tomatoes, beans, peas, cukes, salad greens, etc.....Anthropologist Dr. Richard Stamps reminded us of the significance of the Student Organic Farm at the only site remaining on the OU campus that had been agricultural in the past (poultry area) and that this had been (still is) about community - feeding them and providing employment. Farm Director, Dr. Fay Hansen spoke to the broader impact of the campus student organic farm for not just food security for students, but also its role in learning and preparing students for the future through teamwork, leadership training, and interdisciplinary . thinking. What a way to end the season!

AS ALWAYS WE ARE LOCATED BY THE OAKLAND CENTER/FOUNTAIN/BELL TOWER AREA AND WILL BE OPEN 10-1!

It's a perfect day for our weekly FARMSTAND! 10 -1 on the OU Campus - located near the Oakland Center and the bell tower. Lots of veggies (including heirloom tomatoes), oodles of cut flowers, and - back again since last year - our popular CARROT BREAD and PICKLE-ON-A=STICK!
