e-LIS Workshop: Best Practices - How does a Quality Course Review work?
Tuesday, Oct. 18, 3-4 p.m.
This workshop will review the e-LIS quality course review process. Using the industry standard OSCQR-SUNY rubric, we will talk about its different sections and design elements to look for in your course. We'll also review the quality course review process that we use for online programs, but is also available to all faculty using Moodle.
e-LIS Workshop: Teaching Presence - Online Teaching Observation Process
Thursday, Oct. 20, 3-4 p.m.
Many academic departments have been asking e-LIS and CETL for materials to guide online teaching observations, similar to what instructors do in a F2F classroom. An Ed.D. student collaborated with e-LIS to pilot an online teaching observation guide and process. This workshop will demonstrate this process, as well as where anyone can find and share observation guides for both synchronous and asynchronous online instructors.
e-LIS Workshop: Best Practices - Backwards Course Design
Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1:30-2:30 p.m.
In this workshop, we will cover Backward Course Design, a model in which instructors identify their course's learning goals first, then build their content and activities around those goals. It can be tempting to share every interesting resource on a topic with your students, but information overload can hinder their learning. Instead, Backward Course Design aligns your learning outcomes and course material, and this intentional method of course design increases student engagement and understanding. After this workshop, you will understand why Backward Course Design is important, how it can help your students, and how you can get started using it to plan and structure your courses more effectively.
