In partnership with Civic Genius, the Democracy Center is bringing two political leaders to Rochester who played pivotal roles in negotiating South Africa's transition to post-apartheid democracy.  The leaders, Rolf Meyer and Mohammed Bhabha, are currently traveling around the world to share what they've learned about navigating political conflict in highly polarized societies.  Meyer and Bhabha will share their experiences and discuss their implications for U.S. politics this coming Tuesday, January 24, from 7:00pm-8:00pm at Temple Sinai in Penfield.  To attend or view remotely register here: https://lessons-from-south-africa.eventbrite.com/. A shuttle will be available to transport UofR students to and from the event on Tuesday evening.  If you'd like a ride, register before Friday and check the box on the registration form to indicate that you are a UofR student!

'If they didn’t think the corporate voice mattered, nobody would be pressuring corporations.'”

Republicans like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are waging war against "corporate wokeness" from CRT to ESG to score political points with their base.

According to the most recent Bright Line Watch survey—Rebound in Confidence: American Democracy and the 2022 Midterm Elections—which was fielded right after the November elections, more voters in the United States now trust the integrity and fairness of elections than they did prior to the midterms. As Professor Gretchen Helmke stated, “Confidence did not decrease. To me, that was surprising and really encouraging.”

A post-2022-midterm election poll by Bright Line Watch finds increased trust in the fairness of elections.
