The Oakland University Human Computer Interaction lab is looking for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and cisgender heterosexual women who would like to be involved in altering the landscape of dating application design. As most of us are aware, sexual violence is a huge problem today, especially for women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and people of color. This is even more true for those of us who use dating apps. Our team believes the way dating applications are designed plays a very important role in this complex issue. We want to work with the communities affected most by these issues in order to solve them.
We are hosting a series of focus groups where we will be discussing technology, AI, dating applications, sexual violence, consent, and other related issues. We are hosting them through Discord where they are audio recorded for analysis. All names and identities will be anonymized. Participants will pick a fake name to be referred to by for the purpose of the study. There is a quick 5 minute scheduling survey (link below) as well as the focus group sessions which take about 90-120 minutes. Participants should be between the ages of 18-29 and are either cisgender hetereosexual women or members of the LBTQIA+ community who have used a dating app in the past two years. All research is being overseen by Dr. Zytko at Oakland University.
