The TRiO Achievers Program at Winthrop University is one of over 1,000 Student Support Services programs on college campuses nationwide. TRiO is an academic support program designed to increase the academic performance, retention rates, and graduation rates of program members. The TRiO Program promotes academic excellence and gives members the tools necessary to get the most out of their undergraduate education to graduate and seek employment and/or attend graduate or professional school.

After training sessions, we visited three of our Congressional members on Capitol Hill, sharing information about our program, our wonderful students, and demonstrating how successful the TRIO Achievers program is! It was a great week of advocacy with some of our SC TRIO program colleagues, with some additional DC fun mixed in!

Rose and Janell were in Washington, DC this week advocating for our SC TRIO programs. After training, we visited three of our Congressional members on Capitol Hill, sharing information about our program, our amazing students, and demonstrating how successful Winthrop’s TRIO Achievers program is! We advocated for increased TRIO funding and a restoration of the SC programs that were cancelled last year. It was a great week of advocacy with some of our SC TRIO program colleagues, with some additional DC fun mixed in!!
