June 16, 2026 - ISU Extension and Outreach of Lyon County again partnered with the Central Lyon FFA to organize, plan and present Progressive Agriculture Safety Day for youth in grades preschool-2nd grade of Lyon County. The topics presented to the youth were all on SAFETY in the following areas: Grain, Bicycle, PTO/Tractor, ATV, Lawnmower, Animal, First Aid, Chemical, Handwashing, and Water/Sun Safety. The youth were also presented a puppet show by the CL FFA at the end of the morning on how to stay SAFE. The local sponsors/supporters for this Safety Day include ISU Extension and Outreach-Lyon County, Central Lyon FFA, Lyon County Fair Board, and Dordt College Ag Dept. The program also has many national sponsors who provide the free t-shirts, take home bags, & other supplies. The mission of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Days is simple – to provide education and training to make farm and ranch life safer and healthier for children and their communities.

Update from our Rising Star Interns!

From Claire: I did a few different things this week! At the beginning of the week I helped the Osceola County Office move into their new location and worked with them to start getting settled. I also had a few more visits to different Extension Offices! This week I went to Dickinson, Buena Vista, and Woodbury County Extension and learned how their spaces function.

Going forward, I'm going to start making some rough layouts for a new Osceola Office building based on some of these successful office spaces!

From Megan: This week, I visited local libraries across the counties to set up survey stations for community members. These stations will help us gather valuable feedback on local needs and interests, and on how our programs can better support the people we serve. A big thank‑you to the library staff who welcomed me in and made space for this project. I’m excited to see the responses come in and learn from our communities!

I also had the chance to attend the Sheldon Chamber luncheon meeting today, which was a great opportunity to connect with local leaders and learn more about community initiatives. I’m excited to see the survey responses roll in and to keep building relationships across the region!

If you have any other community event ideas, email me at [email protected]!

From Kaitlynn: This week, we continued visiting daycares and providing educational programs while also connecting with new groups interested in programming. We also had the chance to attend our first two council meetings in Osceola and O'Brien Counties! It was great to meet everyone, share what I've been working on this summer, and learn more about the communities in Region 1.

I have several meetings coming up with interested programs, and I'm excited to keep making connections and bringing fun, hands-on learning opportunities to communities across the region. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the summer has in store! 🌟
