Day 4 in Rome provided our Rockford University students with the opportunity to walk through the heart of ancient civilization, where history, architecture, and storytelling converged in unforgettable ways. From exploring the Roman Forum and Capitoline Hill to discovering priceless artifacts and breathtaking views of the city, students continued experiencing the kind of experiential learning that brings the classroom to life.
We began our 4th day with a long walk to the Roman Forum, where we encountered the already familiar sites along the Via dei Fori Imperiali. We would then wait in line for the Forum, entering where Ashwaq would begin her presentation as we toured around the Forum, seeing its various temples and the house of the Vestals. Leaving the forum, the group would get slightly separated, eventually finding its way to the Capitoline Hill in two groups. We would spend a moment to eat at the Capitoline Cafe, where we could see a great overview of the city, and were visited by plenty of pigeons in the Cafe. From there, we went outside to listen to Lezly present on the Hills history, before entering the museum and exploring its various artifacts, statues, and ruins. From there, the group diverged into many, walking back to the hotel, exploring the city and its beauty throughout the night! Jacob Harker, Rockford University student.

From ancient ruins and underground mysteries to breathtaking views inside the Colosseum, Day 3 in Rome gave our Rockford University students an unforgettable opportunity to experience history far beyond the pages of a textbook. Day 3 summary: We had a late start before heading to Trajan's market, which is currently being restored, and saw the tower depicting the greatness of his deeds. We walked past the Colosseum (sneak peek trailer), where we had lunch before walking a bit further to the Basilica of San Clemente, where Masha gave a truly riveting retelling of its vast and layered history (pun intended). The ground floor of the Basilica was very much under construction, but the basement was a very special site, half of which was painted and constructed over by the Catholic church, but half of which still showed its Mithraic origins, including some of the original hats presumably worn by the boys in the Mithraic school. From there, we circled back to the Colleseum where Arwen gave a stunningly detailed report on the Colosseum (or the Flavian Amphitheater as it was officially called). Inside the Colosseum, we all took really great pictures on the two levels accessible to basic ticket holders. We then made the trek back to the hotel for showers and rest before a very excellent dinner featuring Ashwsq's giant sizzling steak and some very nice sweet wine and tiramisu.
