And just like that, Summer Pharmacy Institute 2024 has ended successfully! We have had so much fun spending the last two weeks with participants from all around the country. It has been our pleasure to help you learn more about the profession of pharmacy.

Special thanks to Tierra Biggus, Kelly Liang, & our SPI interns Nadine, Mariangelie, Sara, & Carlotta for all their hard work to make this year's program possible!

Session 2 Day 4 highlighted research opportunities in pharmacy. Special thanks to Dr. John Nitiss, Dr. Les Hanakahi, Dr. Andrew Riley, Dr. Nora Vazquez-Laslop, Dr. Alexander Mankin, and our amazing PharmD & PhD students for sharing your knowledge and experiences with our participants!

Session 2 Day 3 was focused on Ambulatory Care Pharmacy! Students learned about HIV management, how to check blood pressure, how to understand blood glucose readings, complex patient management, and more.

Thanks to Dr. Asish Biju, Dr. Caitlyn Patton, Dr. Allison Schriever, Dr. Annette Carmichael, Dr. Erin Carson, Dr. Chris Schriever, and P4s Jacob Brown, Matt Dini, Hamdin Useini, Natalie Bitar, & Adriana Salazar-McKinney for educating our participants today! One more day to go!

SPI participants spent today learning all about clinical pharmacy in a hospital setting! They heard from multiple clinical pharmacists, made IV bags in our sterile compounding lab, & interacted with lots of our current student pharmacists. Our College Recruiter, Kelly Liang, also shared information about the admissions process to pharmacy school.

SPI Session 2 Day 1 is almost over! Thank you to our community pharmacists for participating in our professionals panel, and for giving our participants a tour of two community pharmacies! This afternoon participants spent time with our amazing interns, Nadine, Mariangelie, Sara, & Carlotta making gummy troches & lip balm! They are wrapping up the day learning more about our RPHARM program.
A big thank you to Dr. Les Hanakahi, Dr. Ashay Patel, Dr. Ned Loy, Dr. Jami Weiland, Dr. John Kmieciak, Alanis Rodriguez Colon, & Denise Granneman - as well as, Walgreens and Downtown Discount Drugs!

Session 1 of SPI 2024 has officially finished! We had so much fun getting to know all of the participants & hope they enjoyed their 4 days of learning more about all the opportunities within the profession of pharmacy.
We can't wait to welcome a new group of future pharmacy students on Monday for Session 2!

Session 1 Day 4 was all about research opportunities in pharmacy. The participants were able to hear from multiple experts in the field & competed in a game of Pharmacy Feud to test their knowledge of what they've learned throughout the week! Special thanks to Dr. John Nitiss, Dr. Les Hanakahi, Dr. Aaron Winn, Dr. Terry Moore, Dr. Jose Villegas, and our amazing PharmD & PhD students for sharing your knowledge and experiences with our participants!

Day 3 of SPI Session 1 is wrapping up, and today we focused on Ambulatory Care! Check out some pics of the action! Participants learned how to set up complex medication management plans, read blood glucose meters, and do blood pressure readings! The second day of SPI Session 1 was a blast! Today participants were able to spend time in our sterile compounding lab making IV medications. We also spent a lot of our day hearing from clinical pharmacists working in a hospital setting & had a chance to apply newly learned skills through practice patient cases. Thank you to P4s Brandon Hansknecht, Joy Igaba, & Tina Sanders, as well as Dr. Manar Kandil, Dr. Brady Raab, Dr. Tim Murrey, Dr. Shivani Patel, and Dr. Alice Hemenway for all of your insights into the world of clinical pharmacy!

We are so excited here at UIC College of Pharmacy at Rockford to kick off Session 1 of Summer Pharmacy Institute 2024 with our Community Pharmacy Day! We received a welcome from this year's SPI Executive Director, Dr. Les Hanakahi, heard from a panel of community pharmacy professionals, and took tours of some pharmacies! The afternoon included activities in the compounding lab making lip balm & gummy troches with our compounding lab faculty & student interns! Our participants also got to learn about the Rural Pharmacy Concentration from Dr. Heidi Olson.
Thanks to Dr. Que Mohring, Dr. Ashay Patel, Mike Lynch, & Vanessa Jewell for participating in the panel, as well as to Walgreens & Downtown Discount Drugs for the tours!

SPI Session 2 Day 4 is about to wrap up! Today we focused on research opportunities within the pharmaceutical sciences. Our participants got to hear from multiple UIC faculty about their research, ask questions during a student panel, and complete a hands-on activity in our dispensing lab!
