It is with heavy hearts that we share that Dr. Ray Lubeck, distinguished and beloved Professor and Alumni of Multnomah University, has gone to be with the Lord on December 20, 2025.

The following is a short tribute from Dr. Parnell M. Lovelace, Jr., Interim President of Jessup University:

Remembering a Scholar of the Faith

A year and a half ago, I entered a chapel service in Portland, Oregon. I observed a gentle yet stately gentleman seated in the room, surrounded by several students. Later, faculty and staff shared with me that this man was deeply revered across the campus. He had spent decades affiliated with the school—first as a student and later as a professor.

In time, I would sit alongside this prolific individual in faculty and staff meetings. It became clear to me that I was in the presence of a sage, a prophetic voice, and a distinguished scholar of Torah studies. More importantly, I came to know him as a man who loved Jesus with all of his heart. His academic acumen never overshadowed his deep conviction for Christ, his family, the Church, or his students.

I honor Dr. Ray Lubeck, Professor of Bible and Theology. His life and ministry affirm the words of 2 Timothy 4:7–8 (NIV): He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith. Now there is in store for him the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to him on that day—and not only to him, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

May you all enjoy and experience an abundant advent, even if your day or year has been difficult. We value the reflection of John CHRYSOSTOM (Archbishop & Patriarch of Constantinople), 354-407 AD.

As he thinks about Christmas he says: ā€œThough I know that a virgin this day gave birth… and I believe Jesus was before all time, yet the way this happened I have learned to marvel at in silence…so what am I going to say?

How shall I describe this Birth to you? For this wonder fills me with amazement. The Ancient of Days has become an infant... It is a strange manner of celebrating a festival; but truly wondrous is the whole story of the Nativity. For on this day, ancient slavery is broken, paradise is unlocked, the curse is taken away, sin is removed from us, error is driven out, truth has been brought back, the speech of kindness spread out on every side, a heavenly way of life has been implanted on earth, angels communicate with men without fear, and men now hold speech with angels. Why is this? Because God is now on earth, and man in heaven; on every side all things mix!ā€

Merry Christmas from Multnomah Biblical Seminary!

ā˜• Hot Drinks + Real Conversations

There’s nothing better than working out tough theological questions over a hot drink with professors and friends who love Jesus and love truth.

Come sip with our faculty and staff this semester — because iron sharpens iron, and lattes help too šŸ˜‰

You can’t find yourself apart from God.

"The secret of my identity is hidden in the love and mercy of God. Therefore, I cannot hope to find myself anywhere except in Him. There is only one problem on which all my existence, my peace and my happiness
depend: to discover myself in discovering God. If I find Him, I will find myself, and if I find my true self, I will find him."
- Thomas Merton
