Students in Ministry Spotlight: Kayla George! We are so blessed to have Kayla in our department! This is a little bit about her summer that she used serving with WinShape!
“This past summer was the fulfillment of a dream come true as I worked my first summer with WinShape Camps as a staffer! I had the pleasure of working at the Winshape Camps for Girls overnight location in Young Harris, GA. I was a Bumbline Jr. counselor for 4th and 5th grade girls and I got to share the love of Jesus with them day in and day out as we explored fun skills and learned about how they were made by God for a purpose, or through attending Jumpstart worship in the morning and ultimately competing in Ultimate Rec at the end of every week! As a former Camper for WinShape I already was aware of the transformative experience and environment they create for their campers and I was so happy to get to be a part of that this summer. Being behind the scenes helping to create that fun, energetic environment for young girls where they felt safe enough to take time to get to know Jesus on a more personal level was something special that I’ll never forget. But it was also much harder than I ever would’ve imagined, my dependency on Jesus and confidence in myself as a Christian grew so much during these long weeks…I’m thankful that Shorter had done so much to prepare me for this adventure from helping me get used to crazy class schedules and how to know when to prioritize family and spiritual time for myself. Now as I look ahead to next summer I’ve already applied to go back to Winshape and yet God is still opening other opportunities that might be His Way of growing me in different areas of my life. I’m forever grateful for the constant encouragement and affirmation that I receive from the Christian Studies Department as I pursue all kinds of different mission opportunities during my summers while I’m a student here at Shorter.
P.s There is absolutely no other feeling in the world that can compare to watching a young girls face light up as they finally understand the gift of Jesus and they choose to accept Him into their lives! ”
