Dr. James and her EDU3800 class had a fun-filled afternoon at the Rome Area History Museum! Students learned interesting facts about Rome, the building the museum is in, facts about the reconstruction of downtown Rome as well as how the Civil Rights Movement impacted the area. If you haven’t visited, you’re missing out!

We loved seeing the students in Professor McCoy’s Elementary Science Methods course hard at work getting ready for Chattooga County Schools’ STEAM Day, hosted on Shorter University’s main campus! 🧪🔬🎨

From creative, hands on activities to well organized lesson setups, these future educators showed impressive creativity, expert teaching skills, and strong organizational abilities as they prepared to engage and inspire young learners.

A special thank you to Professor McCoy for providing outstanding guidance and modeling excellence in teaching as these students translate theory into meaningful classroom practice. We are proud of the work happening here and the impact it will have beyond campus! 👏✨

It’s a great day to be a Shorter University Teaching Hawk!

Dr. Robbie Vincent and several of her Early Literacy students were honored to be invited as guest readers at Model Elementary School in celebration of Read Across America Week. Sharing their love of children’s literature, Dr. Vincent and her students spent time reading aloud to classrooms, engaging students in lively discussions, and modeling the joy and importance of early reading experiences.
This opportunity allowed her Early Literacy students to apply what they’ve been learning about reading development, interactive read alouds, and fostering a love of books in young learners. The visit not only supported Model Elementary’s commitment to literacy, but also strengthened the partnership between the school and emerging educators who are passionate about nurturing lifelong readers.
It was a meaningful, memorable time for everyone involved—and a wonderful celebration of reading, community, and connection.

The Shorter School of Education recently held its annual Hiring Fair on the Thornwood Campus. Students interacted with many partnering districts, and they learned so much about each school district. The information gathered will benefit our seniors in their pursuit of future employment, and the Hiring Fair gave the districts face-to-face interaction with our students.

🏈 BIG WIN FOR SHORTER SOE ALUMNI! 🏈

Join us in giving a HUGE shoutout to Tyler Pullum, Middle Grades Education major, Class of 2020, who has just been named Assistant Principal at Pepperell Middle School!

Tyler was a standout both in the classroom and on the field—a leader who showed discipline, grit, and heart in everything he did. We couldn’t be more proud, and honestly… we’re not surprised he’s still scoring big achievements.

Check out this quote from Tyler from his time at Shorter University:

“Being a student at Shorter means that I know I have professors that will love and support me in the most trying times of my career here. That being said, they are not professors that will coddle me. They are professors that expect and demand my best, which is what every student needs,” says Tyler. He adds, “Students can expect to have this same experience if they are a part of the education program at Shorter University.”

🏆 From Friday night lights to leading future Dragons—Tyler continues to make big plays in education, and we’re cheering him on every step of the way!
