From classroom leader to future educator, we'd like to highlight the accomplishments of Gwen Pasowicz as she graduates with a degree in Combined Special and Elementary Education from the College of Education and Social Sciences.

Throughout her time at , Gwen dedicated herself to creating inclusive and welcoming spaces for others while preparing to make a meaningful impact in the field of special education. Through coursework, field experiences, and leadership opportunities, she developed a passion for supporting diverse learners, advocating for equity, and ensuring every student feels valued and capable of success.

Gwen’s commitment to service and leadership could be seen across campus as she served as President of both Best Buddies and Aspiring Educators. In these roles, she helped foster meaningful connections, support future educators, and build communities centered on belonging and inclusion. Her experiences strengthened her communication, collaboration, and organizational skills while deepening her dedication to helping others thrive.

Following graduation, Gwen will begin her career as a self-contained special education teacher at Manor Hill Elementary School, where she plans to create an inclusive classroom environment that empowers every student to learn, grow, and succeed.

Graduating with a degree in English Literature and Language, Jimena Araiza is passionate about using the power of the humanities to make a lasting impact. Through her studies, she has developed strong skills in research, critical thinking, and literary analysis—tools she plans to use to expand scholarship in literature and inspire future generations of learners.

This fall, Jimena will continue her journey in graduate school, pursuing a Master’s Degree in Literature with the goal of working in academia and becoming a professor. She is committed to educating others, fostering curiosity, and ensuring that the value of the humanities continues to shape a more thoughtful, informed world.

During her time at Lewis, Jimena found community and leadership as a member of the Kappa Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. Her chapter sisters have been an essential support system, helping her grow both personally and professionally.

From Romeoville High School to , and onward to graduate studies, Jimena is a shining example of how passion for education can help make the world better—one student, one classroom, and one idea at a time.

Meet Tyler Ranieri, a Spring 2026 graduate earning a degree in Physics.

During his time at Lewis, Tyler gained hands-on experience in remote sensing research with the NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration TEMPO Satellite, mapping nitrogen dioxide concentrations and studying regional fires. He also presented his findings at the NASA HAQAST Conference and worked at Argonne National Laboratory supporting shock physics experiments.

Tyler plans to continue his education in advanced graduate STEM programs, with a focus on advancing sustainability in science and industry.

Originally from Romeoville, Tyler’s journey reflects the power of research, innovation, and determination.

On Thursday, May 7, Richard Durbin visited ASI Home Care Services in Chicago to celebrate federal funding supporting ASI’s workforce training initiatives.

During the visit, Sen. Durbin met with participants in the Illinois Works Construction Pre-Apprenticeship program, for which Lewis University’s Institute for Workforce Education is providing training.

ASI is led by Marta Cerda, who serves on the Advisory Council of St. Augustine College at Lewis University. We’re proud to support programs that create opportunities for workforce development and community impact. ✈️

Joshua Brown, a Computer Science BS degree recipient with a perfect 4.0 GPA, earned the 2026 Spring Father Aquinas Colgan Award—Lewis University’s highest recognition.
