FOUR GENERATIONS
Patrick O’Day founded O’Day Drilling in 1912, drilling residential, agricultural, and small commercial wells with a tractor, a wooden derrick, and one mud pump, in Pearland, Texas. Patrick’s son, Orlen “Pat” O’Day, took the reins in 1956 and focused on drilling 2” to 12” wells along the Gulf Coast region and in East Texas.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Sam Houston State University, Michael Patrick O’Day followed full time in his father’s footsteps. At that time, the company was focused on oilfield water supply and residential wells. With Mike joining the team, O’Day Drilling was successful in expanding to include municipal drilling and construction. The municipal work consisted of gravel packed water wells, water plants, sewer plants, and municipal distribution and collection systems.
Mike retired in 2005 knowing the tradition of family pride would continue with his son, Patrick, and daughter, Amy O’Day Matejek. Patrick received an Associate degree from Alvin Community College, Amy graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and both continue to give back through community service.
