Congratulations! Some time in the future we will have a place to hold graduation on campus. Until that day arrives, enjoy your day at Golden One!
To all of the Public Relations graduates, family, friends, and professors... If I can have your attention please, I’d like to propose a toast...
You have been students at Sacramento State but realize, too, that you have been teachers during your time here as well. Though your professors may not have admitted this to you, they have learned so much from each of you. They have been your students just as surely as you have been theirs. They have not only learned new words from you... but you have allowed them to gain glimpses into your worlds and your understanding of our common world...
As you journey out forth, remember that each of us—and often simultaneously—plays the role of teacher and of student. If you are ever in a work environment in which you are only being told what to do and are not being asked for your input, I suggest you leave and find a place where you can share your many talents and express your worthwhile ideas. Likewise, I ask you to remember that each human being you encounter has the potential to be your teacher.
Go out into the wide world, making a point to learn something new every day and to help someone else learn a lesson that just might have been taught to you here.
I would now like to propose this toast to all of you – I know that you each will make all of us proud no matter where the journey takes you.
