The LegiSchool Project is a civic education collaboration between California State University, Sacramento, and the California State Legislature, administered by the Center for California Studies. The Project's mission is to engage young people in matters of public policy and state government by creating opportunities for students and state leaders to meet and share ideas on the problems affecting Californians.

Don’t forget to apply! The LegiSchool Civics Virtual Institute is a 4 week REMOTE summer experience open to all high school students in California and all participants will also receive a $250 stipend upon completion.

LegiSchool crafts fun ways for young people to learn about state government, meet new peers, connect with mentors, participate in virtual workshops AND make some summer spending money.

This is a great way for high school students to get civically engaged and add professional experience to their resume - all from home! Apply by June 7th.

Join us on Wednesday October 20th from 1-2pm for our first Virtual Town Hall of the 2021-2022 school year: "Housing the Unhoused", moderated by Arnold O. Beckman High School Senior, Calvin Cho.

California is top 5 in the nation for having the highest rates of homelessness and accounts for one-third of all homeless youth in the nation. How can California assist people living in homelessness? What community programs have shown the most success? Are tiny homes a possible solution? How can urban planning help combat homelessness?

Panelists include: Lisa Engel - Chief Consultant of Assembly Committee on Housing, Misa Lennox - Lead Consultant of the Office of Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins, Laurissa M. Are you a high school student looking for a rewarding virtual summer internship and want to learn more about state government and develop professional skills? Applications for the LegiSchool Civics Virtual Institute are due on June 14th!

To qualify, you must be a current junior or senior in any high school in California. Meet new friends, attend virtual professional development workshops, work on research projects, and learn about the 3 branches of government! Have you ever had a Q&A session with a judge or state senator? Now is your chance to do that and more!

This 4 week program will take place from June 28th to July 23rd. All juniors and seniors are welcomed to apply, no matter your background or academic history. If you are motivated to learn new things this summer, this program is perfect for you! Apply now at:

Calling all 11th and 12th graders in California! How did 2020 change YOUR state issue priorities? What policies should California be focusing on? Did your policy interest areas change this year?

LegiSchool wants to hear from YOU! Showcase your writing skills and submit your essay to LegiSchool's Annual Essay Contest. Selected winners will be invited to the Virtual Legislative Summit where they have a special opportunity to share thoughts and ideas with state policymakers and receive special recognition from their state representative.

Are you currently a junior or senior high school student in California that is interested in an online summer internship?

The LegiSchool Project is now accepting applications for the "2020 LegiSchool Civics Virtual Institute". Qualified students will participate in an intensive 4-week online program that dives into the three branches of government and explores California policy issues. Students will participate in online workshops, webinars, civics projects and more!

A stipend will be provided to students after the completion of the program. Deadline to apply is Friday, May 22.
