Join us in welcoming Melissa Muganzo for our Women's History Month capstone event tomorrow! She will be speaking in person at 12:00 pm in the Recital Hall about her work as executive officer and founder of Muganzo Entertainment and executive producer of "The Big Hysto: A Black Womb Revolution", which explores issues related to reproductive health amongst Black patients. We were delighted to have Dr. Melissa Leal kick off CRC Women's History Month with a presentation on Indigenous California women and storytelling from her perspective as an Ohlone and Esselen woman. Additionally, she provided many great resources on Indigenous Women's perspectives including the works of Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Brooklyn Shinabargar, and Deborah A. Miranda. See links in the comments! CRC Women's History Month kicks off next Thursday, March 2 with Dr. Melissa Leal's presentation "Our Stories Aren't Always Written Down." She will discuss storytelling as an act of decolonization by exploring the work of various California Indian women including her own. Dr. Leal is Esselen and Ohlone and grew up in Sacramento, CA. She earned her Ph.D. in Native American Studies from the University of California, Davis and is currently the Tribal Liaison for Sierra College and an professor in Ethnic Studies.
