UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities

UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities The Center for Reducing Health Disparities takes a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to the inequities in health access and quality of care.

The UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities takes a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to the inequities in health access and quality of care. This includes a comprehensive program for research, education and teaching, and community outreach and information dissemination. The center builds on UC Davis’ long history of reaching out to the most vulnerable, underserved populations in t

he region. A comprehensive medical interpretive services program helps overcome limitations in access for those who don’t speak English. Its regional telehealth network provides a high tech link between UC Davis physicians and smaller clinics around the state that cannot afford to maintain medical specialists on staff. The center represents a major commitment to addressing community needs that goes well beyond the traditional service role of an academic medical center. It is a program designed not only to raise awareness and conduct critical research, but also intended to actually assist those communities whose needs have never been addressed and met by the traditional health-care system. The center’s wide-ranging focus on health disparities includes an emphasis on improving access, detection and treatment of mental health problems within the primary care setting. It will also focus efforts on achieving better understanding into the co-morbidity of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cancer or HIV/AIDS with depression.

Celebrating leaders who uplift our communities! 🌟

Hugo Morales, founder and executive director of Radio Bilingüe, was recognized as a 2026 Legacy of Family Honoree at the 10th Annual Reyes Scholarship Fund dinner for his lifetime contributions to amplifying Latino voices and expanding opportunity.

The event brought together community leaders and partners, including our director, Dr. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola—to honor his lasting impact and support students pursuing higher education.

Last week, our team had the opportunity to be part of the Principles of Community Showcase 2026 at UC Davis Health. The event created space for meaningful dialogue, connection, and reflection on the shared values that guide how we show up for one another and the communities we serve. ✨

We had so much fun connecting with colleagues and partners across campus and truly valued the opportunity to come together with purpose.

Thank you to Health Equity by Design for Inclusive Excellence (HEDI) for hosting such an inspiring gathering and creating space to celebrate community, collaboration, and belonging. 💛

Rooted in UC Davis’ long-standing commitment to serving the region’s most historically underserved populations, our Center goes far beyond the traditional role of an academic medical center.
As our Director, Dr. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, explains: “Our UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities is joining UC Davis Health in embracing a “seeking mode” of service delivery- bringing preventive health services where populations in need are, where they live, work, and congregate.”
