Ohio University is welcoming nearly 7,700 new students across its campuses and online this fall, including students beginning their OHIO experience close to home at our regional campuses.

At OHIO Eastern, we're excited to welcome new and returning Bobcats as they pursue their goals, prepare for in-demand careers and become part of our campus community.

Meet Austin Dietz!

For Shadyside, Ohio, native Austin Dietz, OHIO Eastern is where his college journey begins. Austin is majoring in actuarial science and chose Eastern as a great place to start working toward his bachelor’s degree while remaining close to home and family.

Austin wrapped up his senior year with plenty to be proud of. He graduated fifth in his class with honors, was accepted to several universities and completed his final high school golf and baseball seasons.

This summer brought a few memorable moments too, including celebrating his 18th birthday and catching Toy Story 5!

Now, Austin is ready for his next milestone and says what he is looking forward to most this fall is simply “starting my college journey.”

We’re glad that journey starts at OHIO Eastern. Welcome, Austin!

Meet Calleigh Holt!

Calleigh is a new nursing major from Bellaire, Ohio, who chose OHIO Eastern for the opportunity to stay close to home while making an affordable choice for her college education.

She arrives at OHIO Eastern with plenty to celebrate. Calleigh was named First Team All-District in softball, earned her STNA certification in July and has already begun gaining valuable healthcare experience working at Forest Hills Nursing Home.

Softball also kept Calleigh busy this summer as she competed with her travel team. When she wasn’t on the field or working, she enjoyed spending time with her boyfriend and friends and being a dog mom to her little beagle!

This fall, Calleigh is looking forward to meeting new friends, along with some special family moments, including a trip to Virginia for a wedding and being part of her sister’s wedding.

As she begins her nursing education at OHIO Eastern, Calleigh already has her sights set on the future and hopes to become an ICU nurse.

Step back in time at the historic Great Western Schoolhouse, located right here on the Ohio University Eastern campus!

As part of the Ohio History Connection’s statewide Ohio Open Doors celebration, the Great Western One-Room School will open its doors Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Built in 1870 and carefully restored, the schoolhouse offers a glimpse into Ohio’s educational heritage. Visitors can explore the historic schoolhouse, meet a costumed schoolmarm and enjoy a special quilt display.

The event is free and open to the public.

Meet Bella Chirpas!

For Bella, beginning college at OHIO Eastern means getting the college experience she was looking for while staying close to home.

The Bridgeport, Ohio, native is majoring in early childhood education and says OHIO Eastern’s smaller campus was part of what made it the right choice for her.

“The smaller campus gives me the opportunity to focus on my education,” Bella shared.

After celebrating two milestones this past year, graduating from high school and getting her first job. Bella spent her summer working and enjoying time with friends.

Now, she’s ready for what comes next. Bella is looking forward to making new friends, experiencing everything college has to offer and starting this new chapter in her life.

And where does she hope that chapter eventually leads? To a classroom of her own as a kindergarten teacher!

Ohio University Eastern will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. Classes will not be in session, and campus offices will be closed.

We hope our Bobcats enjoy a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Meet Kahli Abshire!

A nursing major from Dillonvale, Ohio, Kahli is bringing an impressive academic record with her as she begins her first semester at OHIO Eastern. One of her proudest accomplishments is earning straight A’s throughout her entire senior year of high school!

Staying close to home was important to Kahli when choosing where to attend college, making OHIO Eastern the right fit for the next step in her education.

After a summer filled with travel, Kahli is ready to settle into college life and says she is especially excited about “starting college and learning.”

And she already has a career goal in mind, Kahli hopes to one day become a pediatric oncology nurse.

Meet Aubriel Dodds!

Aubriel is from Bellaire, Ohio, and is beginning her OHIO journey at OHIO Eastern, where she is majoring in nursing.

Aubriel chose OHIO Eastern because she wanted to stay close to home and had “heard amazing things that Eastern offers.”

Aubriel is proud to have graduated from high school with honors. She spent her summer working as a nurse aide, spending time with friends and family, and taking a trip to Arizona.

As she begins her first semester, Aubriel says she is most looking forward to “starting my classes, making new friends and meeting new people.”

Her dream is to one day become a mental health nurse practitioner.
