International Holocaust Remembrance 2026:
As we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, we must also consider how it happened and confront the dangers of hatred, antisemitism, discrimination, and all forms of dehumanization that still exist.

Join us for this important presentation at SCSU.

Dr. David Frey is a professor of history and founder of the Resnick Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies at the US Military Academy at West Point. He has appeared on 60 Minutes, testified in the Senate, and advised government agencies on mass atrocities, human rights, and more.

Drawing from his research and books on the leadership and ethics of N**i soldiers and Rwanda peacekeepers, Dr. Frey will discuss why it is important (particularly for those who are entrusted to use deadly force) to study the Holocaust and other genocides. Specifically, he will explore decisions made by German officers serving in occupied Soviet lands in 1941 as well as choices made by Major General Roméo Dallaire, who was Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Rwanda, during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

Last week, we welcomed Carl Wilkens to St. Cloud and St. Cloud State University. He spoke to approximately 400 students and community members over two days. A special thank you goes out to Sauk Rapids-Rice High School and Foley High School for making time during their day for Carl to speak to their students.

Carl Wilkens is the author of "I'm Not Leaving" and was the only American to stay in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. In his presentations, he not only described the horrors and history of the genocide, but also discussed the lessons learned from Rwanda's focus on reconciliation and healing as part of justice.

Join us this Wednesday when Carl Wilkens visits SCSU. The event is free and open to the public.

ON THIS DAY…
N**i troops massacred 33,771 Jews in the Babyn Yar ravine (Kyiv, Ukraine) on September 29-30, 1941--as documented in the official N**i reports send to headquarters in Berlin. The murders were part of the "Holocaust by bullets" committed by N**i mobile killing units (knows as the Einsatzgruppen) and its collaborators.

You can learn more about the Babyn Yar massacre by watching this BBC News video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X-kVEqiNzM

It's important that we remember and share these horrific stories to counter Holocaust denial and minimization tactics that are so prevalent today.

This week marks 80 years since of one of the worst massacres of World War Two. Nearly 34,000 Jews were killed by the N**is at the ravine of Babyn Yar in the ...

The Fall 2025 semester began this week with 30 students enrolling in our Holocaust Literature course as an elective--that's the highest number of students in years and it continues the trend we saw last year. With all the news of antisemitism and Holocaust denial on the rise, this burst in students choosing a Holocaust-related course is a welcome sign.
