As of this day 1863, the Siege of Port Hudson was well on its way. Commander Hart's gunboat, USS Albatross is listed in the drawing below. The Albatross would take the first shot on March 14 from confederate battery number 7. In spite of surviving this battle and siege, on June 12, Hart's body would be brought up the road from Bayou Sara by his shipmates and masonic brothers, and be buried. W.W. Leake (a confederate officer and mason) conducting the burial service at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Francisville.
