Twenty-five years ago, thousands of miles away from the devastation of 9/11, our entire nation stood by desperately wanting to help, but many of us thousands of miles away. Immediately we realized there was something we could do: give blood.

This week, as part of our 9/11 Tribute Week, our Griffon community answered that same call. Results are in for our “Battle of the Badges” blood drive in partnership with the Community Blood Center:

45 registrations
22 first-time donors
32 units collected
Nearly 100 lives potentially impacted

And in our Battle of the Badges? 🚒 The St. Joseph Firefighters took the win with 19 donations made in their honor!

Twenty-five years later, we remember. We honor. And we serve.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Our grand finale of events to cap off this incredible week of remembrance will be on Friday, Sept. 11th!

We hope to see you at Spratt Stadium and/or the Memorial ceremony at SJFD Station 9!

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the events of 9/11, two Patriot Day events will be held this Friday, September 11, which the public can attend:

🇺🇸The annual Stair Climb will take place at Spratt Stadium on the campus of MoWest with check-in starting at 7:30am and the climb starting at 8:46am. All are welcomed to join in or watch.

🇺🇸The Saint Joseph, Missouri Fire Department, the Joint Veterans Committee of Greater St. Joseph and Saint Joseph, Missouri Police Department will be holding at 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Firefighter Memorial at Fire Station 9, located at 3202 Faraon Street, beginning at 12pm.

Twenty-five years ago, in the face of unimaginable trauma, our first responders needed every resource available to save lives and they needed ALL of us to do our part.

This week, we’re honoring those everyday heroes by rolling up our sleeves once again. Because every unit of blood has the power to give someone another chance and it takes all of us, together, to build a better tomorrow.

Join us TOMORROW, Wednesday, 9/9, from 12–4 p.m. in the Blum Student Union and help us continue the legacy of compassion and service that emerged from one of our nation’s darkest days.

Let’s save lives, TOGETHER. ❤️

Roll up your sleeves for a good cause! The Battle of the Badges blood drive will take place tomorrow, September 9, at MoWest Blum Student Union from 12-4pm. Give blood in remembrance of those lost and honor all those who risk their lives to save ours. Donors will also be invited to vote for their favorite First Responder Department as the winning department will be awarded a trophy.

THESE are some of YOUR student leaders. 🖤💛 A HUGE thank-you for jumping into service today at Second Harvest Community Food Bank in honor of National Food Bank Day and Hunger Action Month!

This year marks Second Harvest’s 45th anniversary, and they’ve set an ambitious goal to sort and pack 45,000 pounds of food throughout Hunger Action Month.

These students showed up during the very first week of the semester, modeling leadership and the importance of service and campus involvement. Great work today, Griffs!

Next week, we’ll come together for a full lineup of events honoring the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks and remembering the lives forever changed that day.

Throughout the week, we’ll host firefighter challenges, a service activity, a blood drive, and our annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, each offering an opportunity to reflect, serve, and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Whether you join us for one of our events or find your own way to remember, we hope you’ll take a moment to honor those we lost and remember a nation that came together in a time of unimaginable need.
