Six of our Chamber Singers vocalists shared their talents with the Mosaic Life Care Center in St. Joseph today. They sang as part of the "Celebration of Life" to recognize those who have donated organs or life-saving tissue. Saturday afternoon, the MW Chamber Singers attended a choral workshop for the St. Joseph Community Chorus Gospel Festival directed by Isaac Cates. The combined Festival choir of over 150 singers performs Sunday at 4pm at the Missouri Theater.

This week, the Missouri Western State University Pep Band, "Sound Machine," has been supporting our men's and women's basketball teams at the MIAA tournament in Kansas City. Even Dr. Marple's daughter, E.J., got involved by helping with lane sweeping.

Music performance scholarship auditions are happening on campus today at Missouri Western State University. We have two more audition dates, March 10th and April 10th. Congratulations to MWSU vocal music education alumnus, Christopher Alexander for being awarded the first ever American Choral Directors Association Composition Focus Prize for his TTBB, a ca****la arrangement of “Casey At the Bat.”

The ACDA Composition Focus Prize is a new initiative structured to meet identified gaps in repertoire needs of ACDA members and their ensembles. The specific type of repertoire in the call varies from year to year; this inaugural call was for compositions Treble Choirs and Tenor/Bass Choirs. The contest drew over 100 applications from the US and abroad. More information can be found here!

All music students should complete the General Scholarship application. The deadline is TODAY, Jan. 31st. There are multiple scholarships sponsored by families or individuals worth thousands of dollars that cannot be awarded unless students apply. Please do this, it only takes a few minutes.

To be considered for 2023-24 Missouri Western Competitive Scholarships, ALL students should complete the General Scholarship Application requirements no later than Feb. 1, 2023. Students from the MWSU NAFME-C organization attended the MMEA conference at Lake of the Ozarks. They sat in on performances, information sessions, and NAfME business meetings. We wish good luck to our singing Griffons who are attending the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competition at KU today. Sara Poet, Dein Gentry, Abbie Giles, Cam Tate, and Garrett Wasson will perform. It has been a few years since Missouri Western State University has been represented at a NATS competition.
