Bethel University Theatre Department

Bethel University Theatre Department Theatre engages the imagination and heart as it strives to engage and entertain an audience. Yet, it

The focus of the program is to provide artistic preparation and exploration for a broad range of individual interests-from those who desire to influence professional theatre to those who plan to use theatre in ministry or education. Three productions a year, ranging from Shakespeare to full-scale musicals and more, Bethel University Theatre offers opportunities for students to engage in all parts

of production. Act, build, create, and serve together in a creative community that challenges each other to grow in faith and art.

A big THANK YOU to all who attended the Farewell Celebration for Brent Adams! There were many BU colleagues, Theatre alumni, and current students in attendance. In addition to the retrospective slideshow of Brent’s work over the decades (much thanks to Theresa Drexler and Leigh Anne Adams), there were many loving tributes, notes of appreciation, gifts, and well wishes. A mirthful, meaningful and memorable time was had!

From BU E-announcements:
"The Department of Music and Theatre invites the Bethel Community to a farewell reception for Brent Adams, Associate Professor of Theatre since 1999. It will be held in the Black Box Theater (CC108) on Friday, May 19 from 3:15-4:45pm. Brent has directed, produced, acted in, and written so many amazing productions season after season. In addition to teaching theatre courses and providing leadership to the Introduction to Creative Arts team, he also served many terms as a faculty senator. We will miss his artistic leadership, his wonderful stories, and his ability to address serious issues with a generous and kind heart."

All available BU Theatre Alumni are especially invited to attend!

On Sunday, we closed our production of Robert Harling's STEEL MAGNOLIAS, directed by Leigh Anne Adams. We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the production, as well as our audiences for their joy and support of the arts. Theatre is powerful and transformative, but it is never truly complete without an audience's engagement.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS was also the final chapter to the 2022-2023 season. While we can never truly know what the future holds, we are grateful for the shows we've performed, the friendships we've made, and the time spent in our home, the Black Box Theater. Until next time!

Happy first day of Interim (for those of you that had class)! We can't wait to share more pictures and information of our upcoming production, THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO!

In the meantime, take a look at this photo from one of our previous J-Term productions. In Feb. 2020, the Department of Music and Theatre produced Bernard J. Taylor's musical adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.
