Center for Accessibility Resources at Metropolitan State University

Center for Accessibility Resources at Metropolitan State University The Center for Accessibility Resources assists students with acquiring necessary accomodations to ensure an equal educational opportunity.

The Center for Accessibility Resources ensures that all programs, services, and activities at Metropolitan State University are accessible. We believe that equity in access is a shared responsibility of all members of the university community, including faculty, staff, and students. We recognize that disability is one of many identities that an individual may have and that these individuals are a

vital and welcome part of our diverse university community. We also recognize that disability is a social and/or cultural construct that often creates barriers for people. We strive to eliminate or minimize these barriers and empower inidividuals to be as independent as possible by facilitating an interative process and building univerally accessible teaching locations. The Center for Accessibility Resources corrdinates a wide variety of reasonable accommodations for students. We meet with each student to understand their unique experiences and how they are impacted in an educational environment. We work with all types of disabilities whether they are apparent or hidden. Some of the most common accommodations are extended test times, distraction reduced testing environments, use of assistive technology, and alternater format books (such as audio). In the interest of equal opportunity, the university will make reasonable accommodations to all qualified students with disabilities so that they benefit from its programs and services. Contact us at 651-793-1549 or [email protected] . All Metropolitan State University facilities are accessible to people with disabilities. For specific issues related to facilities or parking, please call 651-793-1549. Metropolitan State University is committed to ensuring equal education opportunities in accordance with the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 19073 the Americans with Disabilities Act and MnSCU Board Policy.

📚✨ FINAL(S)LY! ✨📚

This semester started back in January… and somehow lasted approximately a decade. If you’re in finals mode right now: we see you. 🫶

As you power through exams, papers, and projects, remember to take care of yourself—drink water, get some rest, take a break when you can, and breathe. You don’t have to earn exhaustion to earn success. 💛

Summer is so close we can almost taste it 😎🌴
And we’re especially excited to celebrate with many of you at Commencement on May 4th 🎓🎉

You’ve got this—and CAR is always cheering you on!

☀️💙

A little positive to add to your day.

On April 27, in celebration of National Deaf History Month, Disney+ will proudly debut Disney Animation’s Songs in Sign Language, three animated musical sequences from recent Walt Disney Animation Studios features, newly reimagined and animated in American Sign Language (ASL).

Disability Awareness Month calls us to take a hard look at the practices we've normalized.

If we're serious about equity and inclusion, we must stop using harmful language - especially words like the "R" word and "special needs" that devalue people with disabilities. Choosing better language is not about being "politically correct"; it's about being human.

Let's model the change we want to see.

A Quick Reminder About Service Animals on Campus

Did you know that service dogs - and in some cases, miniature horses - are allowed on campus? They do not need an accommodation letter, special documents, certification, vest, or ID to accompany their handler.

Service dogs are working and trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability. These service dogs are permitted in all areas of the university where the public or students are normally allowed.

Only dogs (and sometimes miniature horses) are recognized as service animals under the ADA, and they must be individually trained to perform a task or tasks related to the handler's disability. Emotional support animals (ESA) provide comfort but are not trained to perform disability related tasks, and are not considered service animals under the ADA.
