A new undergraduate/graduate course VBS 4131/5131, Immunology, taught by VBS Assistant Professor Emily Truckenbrod will be offered Spring 2026. This course will give students a chance to actively engage and work in groups to formulate a collective response to many real-world questions and cases designed to dive deeper into the exciting and evolving subject of Immunology. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the immune system, think deeply about a topic and solve immunology-related problems, locate and critically evaluate information, communicate effectively, and understand diverse philosophies and cultures within and across societies. A new VBS undergraduate course, "Analysis of Spatial Data in the Human, Animal, and Environmental Health Sciences," taught by VBS Professor Randall Singer (VBS 4181), will be offered Spring 2026 semester. This course provides students with a framework for analyzing spatial disease data so that they can better understand spatial distribution of disease events (exposures and outcomes, and factors that determine where disease occurs.) VBS Professor Zheng Xing has received USDA funding to track how bird flu evolves and to test a vaccine designed to protect poultry before the next outbreak hits.

New USDA-funded research aims to protect poultry from the evolving H5N1 virus
