Professor Lorri Krebs (geography and sustainability) was interviewed by The Boston Globe about 'extreme tourism' as many are now calling the quest for exploring out of reach places for the piece “Skiing in Antarctica. Dinner with the pope. Illegal border crossings? Extreme adventure tourism is hitting new heights.” Professor Krebs was also interviewed by The Seattle Times about the concerns surrounding adventure tourism for the piece “Deep-sea exploration, mountain climbing, space travel: Who pays when things go wrong?” The sustainability of these types of tourism endeavors are front and center in conversations due to the recent Titan submersible tragedy.
The drive for wealthy and competitive travelers to try and reach the edge of space, or the bottom of the ocean, has grown in popularity.
