Important conversations took center stage at this year’s Occupational Therapy Research Conference.

Presentations explored the role of occupational therapists in improving healthcare access and community integration for immigrant families, highlighting both the challenges families face and the opportunities for more equitable care.

Featured presentations included “Advancing Equity: Occupational Therapy's Role in Immigrant Healthcare Access” and “Occupational Therapy Professionals' Perspectives on Barriers to Community Integration for Immigrant Families in Early Intervention”. From a full agenda of thoughtful presentations to engaged attendees, supportive peers, and meaningful conversations, the energy at this year's Research Day was impossible to miss.

Thank you to everyone who presented, attended, asked questions, and helped make this year’s event such a success. The curiosity, creativity, and hard work on display made one thing clear: incredible things are happening at Salem State University.

A limited number of additional tickets will be released on May 7 (first come, first served) at staggered times by ceremony. If the building reaches capacity, satellite viewing will be available in the Ellison Campus Center.

Graduate Student Inductee: Erika K. Pen
A Cambodian-American emerging scholar and practitioner, Erika’s work centers on AANHPI identity, student development, and persistence in higher education. Through roles at SSU and UMass Lowell, along with national leadership with NASPA, Erika exemplifies the power of applied research and community connection. Community Partner: Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association

Faculty Inductee: Dr. Thomas Piñeros-Shields
Associate Professor and founding director of the North Shore Policy Lab, Dr. Piñeros-Shields has spent over 30 years advancing community-based research, youth movements, and immigration policy. His work continues to build meaningful university-community partnerships locally and nationally. Community Partner: The Luce Network

Staff/Administrator Inductee: Dr. Kevin D. Linton
Director of TRIO Student Support Services, Dr. Linton’s work advances access, equity, and student success for first-generation and underserved populations. We're proud to share that graduate student Jack Troyer from the MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology program was one of the students honored at the Inclusive Excellence Showcase and Recognition Luncheon.

Jack won the Catalyst Award, which is presented to a Salem State University undergraduate and graduate student for their exemplified commitment to inclusive excellence through exercising innovative and courageous leadership practices within their student organization, in a classroom, university program, and/or the development and implementation of campus programs and initiatives.

Congratulations to Jack and his fellow students for their outstanding actions and efforts!

Graduating students, are you ready for commencement?

Caps and gowns are available for pick-up until May 13th at the campus bookstore during business hours. No appointment needed. Make sure to bring your ClipperCard or a government-issued photo ID. Graduates can sign up for graduate portraits on a first come, first serve basis. Portraits will be taken on May 8th from 11AM to 7:30PM at the Sophia Gordon Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. Each student can bring up to 10 guests. Each student will receive a code for a free 5x7 photograph from either the Graduate Portraits event and/or the Commencement ceremony. Additional photos will be available for purchase.
