Chemeketa Summer Bands are back!

Chemeketa Community College is offering Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble. Concert Band rehearsals are Monday evenings and Jazz Ensemble rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from June 22nd to August 12th. The concerts are projected to be during the week of August 3rd.

We would like to invite high school graduates (or soon to be) with concert band and jazz band experience, music students home for the summer, or community members who are living in the Salem metro area.

This Wednesday, the Chemeketa Jazz Ensemble is putting on a special concert paying tribute and honoring the legacy of Gordon Goodwin. We are thrilled to welcome jazz bands from Judson Middle School and Sprague High School for this collaboration concert. Chemeketa Jazz Ensemble will also be featuring our very own saxophone instructor, Dr. Seth Wollam. You won’t want to miss this special event!

In this episode, Chemeketa's President Jessica Howard and co-host Les Wielgos explore two inspiring topics that show how Chemeketa enriches lives both inside and outside the classroom.

First, the spotlight is on music. Chemeketa’s Music Program Director and Chair Bryce Tomlin joins the show to share how the program gives students a creative outlet while building teamwork, confidence, and lifelong skills. Bryce talks about exciting updates in the music area and previews performances planned for the coming academic year.

Next, the conversation turns to affordability. Scholarship Coordinator Juan Saldaña highlights Chemeketa’s scholarship opportunities that make college more accessible to students across the region. Juan explains how to apply, the workshops available for support, and the important role donors and grants play in helping students succeed.
