Willamette Chemistry

Willamette Chemistry Willamette University's Chemistry Department Chemistry is a powerful way to understand the world around us.

At Willamette, chemistry courses challenge students to go beyond the required competencies — and to grow as critical thinkers and effective problem-solvers who understand the place of chemistry in human affairs. Faculty members from Willamette’s chemistry department have earned the Oregon Professor of the Year award three times. These dedicated teacher-scholars have built more than a reputation fo

r inspiring students — they’ve founded a rigorous, close-knit, student-centered learning community that spans generations. Upon graduation, chemistry students are well prepared for graduate school and employment in business or industry. Approved by the American Chemical Society, Willamette’s chemistry major program focuses on a strong foundational education in five principal areas: analytical, inorganic, organic, biochemistry, and physical chemistry.

It was an honor to host Professor of Chemistry Jani Ingram from Northern Arizona University who was a Dreyfus Lecturer. She visited campus and gave a talk to regional scientific audiences, gave a talk at Chemawa Indian School, and then topped off the visit to the Land of the Kalapuya with a great Science Pub event at the GovCup! She spoke about her environmental chemistry work on the Navajo Nation with a focus on uranium and other elemental contamination in water sources. Thank you to the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, Willamette University, Allied Video Productions, Capital Community Media, Governor's Cup Coffee Roasters, Vicki & Cindy (ASL interpreters), Greg (photos), Doug (sound), Alyssa & Evan, and everyone who attended!

We didn't get a chemistry senior photo (yet!), but here's the second best thing -- the lab-coating ceremony from last year! But shoot, we gotta photoshop Nick & Annette in to the picture!!! We miss all of you. :)
