Everyone is warmly invited to seminar this Friday, September 11, from noon to 12:50 in room 103 Henson. The seminar is titled, “You don’t have to take the obvious next step: Making your own career path in biotech.” Refreshments will be served!

The speaker, Mike Italia, has built a successful career in Biotechnology, with focus on using bioinformatics for personalized medicine. He has spent decades in healthcare and life sciences — from discovery research at GSK to biomedical informatics at CHOP to product and engineering leadership at Syapse and AWS. He is now the Founder of Vettaris, LLC, which helps healthcare companies build AI that makes their business run better.

This talk will be both about the career path he took and the science done along the way. It should be of special interest to students curious about a career in industry/biotech but wondering how to do it, whether they need to go to graduate school, and what their career could be.

Salisbury University holds a "Research College and Universities" classification from the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education. Many of our students do undergraduate research, including paid research opportunities over the summer.

On Thursday we will showcase the research endeavors from students across campus, including chemistry, BMB, and forensic science majors! All are invited to the Summer Research Showcase on Thursday, September 3, from 4-5 pm in the Assembly Hall of the Guerrieri Academic Commons. Hope to see you there!

This year the forensics program has transitioned from being a track in Integrated Science to its own major, with specialized tracks in Criminalistics, Forensic Biology, or Forensic Chemistry. The Forensic Science major is now housed in the Department of Chemistry, and works in partnership with Wor-Wic Community College, where students take hands-on criminal justice courses. On Friday we had the privilege to attend research talks and posters from our students at the Spring 2026 Chemistry Department Research symposium! Each of these undergraduates has done outstanding work in their field of study and we are so proud of them!
