Here’s our last member spotlight, our trombonist John Robinson

John Robinson was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. He started playing the trombone at the age of 10. He then received a bachelor’s degree in music from Millikin University in 2018 and is currently set to graduate with his master’s degree in music from the University of Utah in 2021. He hopes to pursue a career as an orchestral trombonist upon graduation. His choice of instrument brand is a shires custom trombone for all classical music performances and his king 3b for all jazz and commercial music endeavors. Outside of music, John likes drinking coffee while reading a book or hiking/running Utah’s many mountain trails.

Say hello to our tuba Bryson Roberts! Bryson was born in Alaska and grew up in Spokane, WA. He received a Bachelor’s in Music Performance from Washington State University under Dr. Chris Dickey. Bryson is currently pursuing a Master’s in Tuba Performance with Gary Ofenloch. His musical dream is to get paid to play tuba, which will be happening shortly after he graduates. Bryson has recently won a position as a tuba player for the US Army Regional Bands! He currently plays on an Eastman 836s CC tuba and a Miraphone Petruschka F. For him, the Eastman creates a beautifully round sound while maintaining clarity of articulation. While his Miraphone has a sublime low register while maintaining the wonderful German sound in the upper register. Bryson enjoys spending time with his friends, longboarding, working on his car, or just relaxing at one of the nearby reservoirs. He loves how Utah has such fantastic sceneries and how the community at the University of Utah are equally so.

Maryna was born and raised in Durango, Colorado where she received her Undergraduate degree in Trumpet Performance, under Dr. Marc Reed at Fort Lewis Collage. She is currently receiving her Masters Degree in Trumpet Performance studying under Dr. Peyden Shelton and Professor Travis Peterson. Her musical dream is to receive a job performing in an orchestra. Maryna’s horns of choice are Yamaha Xeno Generation III NY for her B-flat trumpet and a Bach Stradivarius for her C trumpet. Outside of practicing, she enjoys outdoor activities such as snowboarding, hiking, paddle boarding, and golfing.
