University of Utah Formula SAE team is a collaborative project where students are able to take the information and theory that they learn in the classroom and apply them to real world problems. The team features several students from various backgrounds who work together to design, engineer, market and race a true formula-style car starting only with a rulebook and a clean slate. The concept behin

d Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving. Individuals on the team have a passion for everything automotive related and use this experience to transition from the classroom to industry. The students do everything from balancing the budget, fund-raising, conceptualizing, designing, engineering, fabricating, and driving of the car. By working on such a large project individuals get a true hands-on experience of what it is to build a small company and deal with real world challenges. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities, all donations are truly appreciated. Simply message us or email us at [email protected], or visit the Donations tab on our Website (link below). Every little bit helps us get one step closer to competition!

K1 Speed has offered ten of our team members free drive time every week until the competition in June! They run electric cars, like the one we're building! We're all super excited to have started yesterday, and can't wait to see who rises to the top.

We have laid up our first set of test panels! We will use these to help determine the lightest lay up we can get (with a desired stiffness) that will pass the strict SES rules. The SES has us prove our fully carbon fiber monocoque is equivalent to a steel tube frame.
