📚 New book spotlight!

Congratulations to Lauren Aimonette Liang, associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Utah, on the publication of Literary Praxis: Teaching Children’s Literature in Contemporary Society, which she co-edited and co-authored.

The book explores how theoretical perspectives shape the teaching of children’s literature, helping educators connect theory and practice to better reflect today’s classrooms and learners.

📚 Utah’s literacy outcomes vary widely - and KUTV is taking a closer look.

In a recent story, KUTV examined reading and math performance across Utah’s largest school districts, highlighting the differences students experience from one elementary school to another.

The story also features Kelly Patrick, our director of the University of Utah Reading Clinic, who emphasizes that while literacy is improving, progress is often slower than we want.

So what can help? Strong instruction, teacher collaboration, early intervention, and using student data to guide action are all part of the conversation.
