University of Utah outreach specialist Patrick Wiggins discovered his 10th supernova this summer. Nearly 10 weeks later, the exploding star is still shining in a galaxy 50 million light-years away. 💫

Wiggins discovered the exploding star in the NGC 3310 galaxy. This was his brightest one yet; most supernovae fade from view after a few weeks. After nearly 10 weeks, it’s still the brightest supernova currently visible on the online forums that track them. 🌌

Patrick Wiggins skydives over the Great Salt Lake—since his first jump in 1965, Wiggins has spent nearly 20 accumulated hours in total free fall. 🪂
