Please join us in welcoming two newest faculty members to the UT San Antonio School of Music: Dr. Megan Ankuda and Dr. Paul Hunt!
Dr. Megan Ankuda is a music education researcher, teacher educator, and veteran elementary music teacher whose work examines the organization and visibility of elementary music education within U.S. school systems, asking who has access to elementary music, who teaches it, and under what conditions. Her recent publications appear in the Journal of Research in Music Education and the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education. Before entering higher education, Dr. Ankuda taught elementary general and choral music for eleven years in Massachusetts and Connecticut, experience that grounds her scholarship and preparation of future music teachers. Dr. Ankuda is also a frequent presenter on Kodály-inspired music education and teaches in the Kodály certification program at The Hartt School.
Dr. Paul Hunt is a music education scholar and teacher educator whose work examines antiblackness in music education, Black music aesthetics, and material inequalities in instrumental music education. His most recent article can be found in Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Hunt taught on the faculty at UTSA as an assistant professor of practice, teaching classes in instrumental music education. Before pursuing work in higher education, he was a middle school band director and professional trumpeter in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Hunt just defended his dissertation for his PhD at Indiana University. He also holds an M.S. in music education from Indiana University and a B.A. in music from Butler University.
