AI Research Workshop: Open to All
On Saturday, September 5, from 2:00–3:00 PM, Biao Ma will be facilitating an interactive session titled “From a Broad Idea to Something I Can Work With: An Interactive AI-Supported Research Workshop for Doctoral Students.”
The workshop will be held in Gorman Building, Room 115, with a Microsoft Teams option available for students who would like to participate remotely.
This session grew out of Biao's recent capstone project on using AI to support graduate research planning. He will share a practical, peer-to-peer example of how I have used AI to brainstorm research interests, narrow broad ideas, scope literature, develop better search strategies, and refine a research direction while continuing to verify sources and maintain human judgment throughout the process.
The session will also include a few short “try-it-along” activities, so students are encouraged to bring a laptop or other device if they would like to participate.
The attached PDF includes both a clickable Teams access area and a QR code, so you can also upload it directly to Canvas as a single announcement attachment.

Thank you very much for helping me get the word out and for supporting this effort. I hope this becomes a useful opportunity for doctoral students to learn from one another and explore practical, responsible ways to incorporate AI into their research process.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the workshop.
