I am very excited to announce a virtual presentation with Dr. Sonia Sanchez on April 21, 2022, from 1-3 pm.

The event will be conducted as a webinar requiring pre-registration, just click the active bit link on the attached flyer to receive an attendance confirmation link. We will also be receiving 40 signed copies of Dr. Sanchez’s latest book Collection of Poems, which will be made available for free to the first 40 attending employees who complete and return the book form – more on that later. Please feel free to share the information from this flyer with students, colleagues, and the community at large.



Remember, that teaching and learning never stop and at 87 years old, Dr. Sanchez continues to awaken and change the world through her sacred and powerful spoken word.

2/1 - February 1: The Story of the Greensboro Four (Documentary)
This remarkable documentary reveals the power of protest when four college students became friends, inspired one another’s idealism and activism resulting in what became a major staged sit-in on Feb 1st, 1960. It also shows the burden of history and its enduring impact upon their lived realities in America.

2/11 Centennial Anniversary - The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Investigation, 2020 with Dr. Phoebe Stubblefield (1:00 pm - 2:30 pm)
The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre (TRM) has a suppressed history within Oklahoma where many native and descendant Tulsans lack knowledge of its occurrence. Dr. Stubblefield, a Research Assistant Scientist a relative of a survivor from the Tulsa Race Massacre provides a historical summary of the 2020 investigation and answer questions about its status while describing her role as the lead forensic anthropologist in the contemporary analysis of the hidden victims of the Tulsa Race Massacre.

Black Studies is a multidisciplinary curriculum offering courses in American Institutions, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Learning Skills. The program builds a positive understanding and knowledge of the history, culture, and contributions of Africans and Afro-Americans. All students benefit from courses in Black Studies, especially those who pursue careers in social sciences, education, law, counseling, journalism, social work, health care professions, teaching, business, and public administration.
