What started as a need for local construction talent has helped launch hundreds of careers. 🏗️

Mark Filanc and his family helped establish SDSU’s J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Program, creating opportunities for students to build successful careers in the industry.

What happens when cultural knowledge has a permanent home to grow, connect and inspire?

At SDSU, Taharka Adé is helping build that home through the Africana Research & Cultural Renaissance Center. Centered on cultural restoration, cultural rectification and cultural property, the center brings together scholars, students and communities to preserve and deepen understanding of African and African diasporic histories.

Students will contribute to archival research, oral histories, genealogy, cultural mapping and digital humanities projects, gaining hands-on experience while helping tell stories that span generations and continents. https://bit.ly/4hojah4

An Aztec football legacy that lives on through giving back. ❤️🖤

SDSU alumni Bruce Ward (’73) and Nancy Ward (’73) continue to honor the SDSU football program and university that have remained a meaningful part of their lives. Bruce wore No. 71 from 1969–71, and today, his number has a permanent place in the SDSU football locker room through their gift to SDSU Athletics.

New binational research projects with Samsung Heavy Industries and the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology are officially underway!

Launched through the SHI-SDSU Advanced Maritime Center, these projects will use AI and virtual reality to advance shipbuilding technologies, strengthen workforce development and grow the U.S. commercial shipbuilding industry.

When Dennis Szeto (’75) arrived in the U.S. as a child, he barely spoke English.

Years later, an SDSU finance class opened his eyes to the possibilities of investing and helped shape a successful career. Now, Dennis and his wife, Elaine, are investing in the next generation of educators.

What do we choose to keep, transform or let go of?

SDSU alumna Christine Lee (’04, MFA) turned her mother’s worn handbag into something new, stitching its leather, hardware and history into tools for daily life. Her work is part of “Becoming Heirlooms,” an exhibition featuring multiple generations of SDSU-connected artists exploring memory, inheritance and the meaning we give to the objects passed down to us.
