Career-switchers β€” what made you finally pull the trigger on EMS? πŸš‘

Was it a bad day at your old job that suddenly felt pointless? A call you witnessed and couldn't stop thinking about? Someone telling you it was too late to change direction?

There's a specific moment most career-changers remember. The one where "maybe someday" turned into "okay, actually now."

If you made the switch into EMS from another career β€” what pushed you over the edge? And for anyone still sitting on the fence right now: classes in Tempe, San Diego, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Union City, and Tucson all kick off July 6. πŸ”₯

(We wrote up the full career-switch path here if it's helpful: https://www.emsuniversity.com/hoping-to-switch-careers-and-become-an-emt/)

Drop your old career in the comments β€” curious what people are leaving behind to do this work. πŸ‘‡

Fire/EMS folks β€” what's a call where your EMT training made the difference before the engine crew even had a chance to step in? πŸš’

Could be something you caught on assessment, a decision you made in the first 60 seconds, or just knowing exactly what to grab and why.

The fire-EMS crossover is real β€” and so is the advantage of having solid pre-hospital fundamentals when you're also swinging a hose. If you're on the fire side and thinking about adding EMT to your credentials, classes in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, and San Diego all kick off July 6. πŸ”₯

Drop your department or city below β€” we'd love to hear from the fire-EMS crowd. πŸ‘‡

Women in EMS β€” what's one thing you heard early on that almost made you second-guess getting into this field? πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

Could be something someone said directly. Could be an assumption you kept running into. Could be that quiet voice that wondered if this was "realistic."

And then β€” what made you do it anyway?

Drop your answer below. There are women in Houston, San Diego, Tucson, San Antonio, and the Bay Area getting ready to start their EMT training on July 6, and this community is worth hearing from. πŸ’ͺ

Rural medics β€” what's something you learned on the job that no classroom could've fully prepared you for? πŸš‘

Could be a long transport where you had to think three steps ahead. A call where backup was 40 minutes out and you just had to work. The moment you realized "rural" means something different when it's your patient.

Drop your answer below β€” because this is the stuff new students need to hear before they ever set foot in a skills lab. πŸ‘‡

The gear that doesn't fit right. The crews that doubted you for about 10 minutes. The moment on a call when you realized β€” yeah, I belong here.

What was the moment you realized EMS might actually be for you? πŸš‘

Maybe it was watching a crew work a scene and thinking "I could do that." Maybe it was a personal call β€” someone you loved needed help and a stranger showed up and handled it.

For a lot of people, that moment sits there for months before they do anything about it.

If you're a new student just starting to take it seriously β€” what finally moved you from "thinking about it" to actually looking into classes?

Tempe, Tucson, San Diego, San Francisco, Union City, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio all have classes starting July 6. πŸ‘‡

Drop your city below and tell us what sparked it β€” we'd love to hear where you're starting from. emsuniversity.com/emt

Women in EMS β€” what's a moment early in your training (or career) where you thought "I actually belong here"? πŸ’ͺ

It doesn't have to be a dramatic call. Sometimes it's the first time you nailed an IV on a tough stick, or the day a patient grabbed your hand and said thank you, or just the moment a senior medic treated your opinion like it mattered.

The path isn't always easy β€” but those moments hit different when they come.

Classes are starting July 6 in San Diego, Houston, San Antonio, the DFW area, San Francisco, Tempe, Tucson, and Union City. If you're thinking about starting YOUR story, emsuniversity.com/emt is where it begins. πŸš‘

Calling all career-switchers πŸ‘‹

If you've been sitting in a job that pays the bills but doesn't mean anything β€” what finally pushed you to look into EMS?

Could be a call you witnessed as a bystander. A family member who needed help and you felt helpless. A coworker who made the switch and never looked back. Or just a quiet moment where you realized the job you have and the person you want to be aren't the same thing anymore.

Classes are starting July 6th in Houston, Dallas, San Diego, San Francisco, Tempe, and more β€” so if the timing has ever been a question, it's not anymore.

We wrote up the whole career-switch path here if you want the practical side of it: https://www.emsuniversity.com/hoping-to-switch-careers-and-become-an-emt/ πŸš‘

Calling all career-switchers πŸ‘‹

What made you finally decide to make the jump into EMS β€” and what took you the longest to talk yourself out of?

Whether it was leaving a desk job, walking away from a field that just wasn't it anymore, or finally taking something you'd been sitting on for years... there's usually a moment where it clicked.

Drop your before and after below. What were you doing before EMS, and what pushed you to actually do something about it? πŸš‘

What's something you wish you'd known about the fire-EMS path before you started? πŸ”₯

Whether you went fire first, EMS first, or did both at the same time β€” that sequencing decision catches a lot of people off guard.

Did the EMT cert open doors faster than you expected? Did fire academy hit different once you had patient care experience under your belt? Was there a moment where you realized one fed directly into the other?

We put together the road map for anyone trying to figure out which way to go first: emsuniversity.com/emt-to-firefighter-the-road-to-the-fire-academy

Drop your path in the comments πŸ‘‡ Fire β†’ EMS, EMS β†’ Fire, or still figuring it out?
