First Year Services (FYS) provides a smooth
transition from high school or for any new student
starting college. First Year Services will ensure all First-Time College students receive the support needed to become self-sufficient and complete their first year successfully. Services provided are designed to increase student access and su

ccess in achieving their
educational goals by providing students with the core
services to assist each student with academic, personal,
and career support. Along with the support and resources provided to our students, we hope to cultivate confidence and structure for their first year. With the support of faculty and student peers, FYS students will find their first year to be both welcoming and successful. First Year Services is currently serving our first time to college students with the following services:

You are invited to study for Finals this Thursday 5-9pm for the Umoja Finals Math Jam on zoom!
There will be free Math tutoring in all subjects from 5-9pm, as well as many other subjects including English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry thanks to the Math Center, English Center, Tutorial Center, and Mental Health for supporting our students!

Before the tutoring starts (from around 5-5:30ish) we have a warm welcome and mental health check in, and we welcome anyone to join us and encourage our students to study for finals!

The Intersection of Jazz and South Indian Classical Music

In this virtual workshop, Glen “Rusty” Gillette discusses and demonstrates the similarities and differences between jazz and South Indian Classical music, drawing on his many decades as a jazz pianist and South Indian percussionist. Rusty studied world percussion at CalArts and Wesleyan University, toured nationally with a wide range of ensembles, and taught percussion at SDSU for twelve years.

The Associated Students Government (ASG) is the governing body that finances, organizes, and directs many student sponsored programs and activities at City College. Elections are held annually in the Spring semester for ASG Executive, Officer and Senator positions, with midyear elections held as needed. Any student currently registered may vote in the elections.
