Welcome, Katie Lechner!
After 25+ years leading strategy, consumer insights, and UX research teams in the corporate world, Katie is excited to bring her global industry experience into the classroom. Her career has included leadership roles at Walmart, Google, and Gap Inc., where she helped teams make better decisions by deeply understanding humans and delivering value-creating business outcomes. Katie loves turning complex business challenges into practical lessons and believes some of the best learning happens through stories, thoughtful discussion, and a healthy dose of curiosity. She is excited to join PLNU because this move represents a dream years in the making, and she will get a front-row seat to those “aha!” moments when students connect the dots, gain confidence, and see new possibilities for themselves and their future.

Last week was one for the books at the Fermanian School of Business! 🎓

We are still on that Commencement high! ✨✨✨

On Thursday, we celebrated our 153 traditional undergraduate graduates at a beautiful reception filled with family, friends, laughter, and so much pride. We also had the honor of inducting 22 outstanding students into the Delta Mu Delta Honor Society — recognizing excellence in business scholarship and leadership.

We proudly announced our 2026 Students of the Year:
⭐ Accounting — Noelle Planchon
⭐ Business Administration — Cate Harell
⭐ Finance — Abigail Halcomb
⭐ International Development — Ceci Corona
⭐ Management — Aron Shipman
⭐ Marketing — Veronica Estrada

Later that evening, we gathered for the 2026 Master of Science in Accounting Graduation Celebration Dinner, honoring the second graduating cohort of our unique 4+1 program — where students earn both their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees simultaneously. It was such a special night celebrating alongside families and guests while hearing encouraging words from Provost Dr. Jim Daichendt, Dr. Liz Holbrook, and Professor Suzanne Lair. Thank you to Dean Dr. Jamie Hess and Professor Joe Dowdy for being there to support these amazing Accounting students!

And then came Commencement weekend on the Greek. 💚

We are still beaming with pride for all of our FSB students across every program who crossed that stage this past weekend. Your hard work, perseverance, leadership, and heart have left a lasting impact on our community!

Congratulations to our newest FSB alumni! As you step into the next season, remember you will always have a home here! 🥰

Recap from our GPS Graduation Dinner for the Class of Spring 2026 🎓✨

Students from our BAOL, BBA, MBA, and MAOL programs gathered for a meaningful evening of celebration, recognition, and community as we honored the achievements of our graduating class.

During the evening, we recognized our Delta Mu Delta recipients for their outstanding academic accomplishments and heard an inspiring speech from student Hannah Hajj, whose words reflected the dedication and heart of the GPS experience.

We also had the privilege of awarding the Nersesian Scholarship, recognizing academic excellence and commitment to servant leadership.

Congratulations to the Class of SP26 — we are proud of all you have accomplished and cannot wait to see the impact you will make moving forward! 💚

This week we say a grateful farewell to Carl Hammond after 24 incredible years of faithful service in the Fermanian School of Business at Point Loma Nazarene University! 🙌🏼

What started as an unexpected, temporary step into the classroom turned into a true calling—one that shaped generations of students. As Carl shared, once he began teaching, he realized, “this is what I am supposed to be doing with my life.”

From his wisdom in Accounting to his care for students and his deep sense of purpose, Carl leaves behind a legacy far greater than numbers—one of impact, mentorship, and faithfulness.

Thank you, Carl, for the lives you’ve touched, the stories you’ve shared, and the countless students you’ve equipped along the way. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will continue in every classroom you’ve influenced.

Here’s to a well-earned retirement and the next chapter ahead!

What a way to wrap up the year! 🎉

This Saturday, we hosted our very first Graduate Student event to celebrate the end of the academic year, and it did not disappoint. From high-energy game show challenges at Red Door Escape Room to dance battles and karaoke duels that brought out everyone’s competitive side, the vibes were unmatched. And yes… The Winners showed up and claimed that first-place glory 🏆

We kept the momentum going with a delicious lunch at Cocina Blanco, where the real highlight was relaxing, connecting, and celebrating together.

Huge shoutout to the amazing students who made this such a fun experience: Michael Djobi, Cutter Harring, Brianna Bushnell, Emir Dikurt, Kenneth Yanga, and Lucerito Arvizu.

Grateful for this community and already looking forward to our next exciting event. 💫
