UC San Diego Peace Corps

UC San Diego Peace Corps Peace Corps offers an unparalleled opportunity to put your education, skills, and experience to work in one of over 70 different countries.

The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship. Since that time, 210,000+ Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139

host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation. Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and contributing to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to help countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities.

Emprende joven Rosaritense exitoso proyecto en Liberia
Ecos de Rasarito, Baja California, Mexico

A reason why you were born
The Bemidji Pioneer, Bemidji, Minnesota

This weekend, about 20 former Peace Corps Volunteers will travel to Bemidji to attend a 50th year reunion. In 1965 there were about 40 of us who traveled to Uruguay as Peace Corps Volunteers. We were divided into two groups. I was part of a basketball/sports group and Kathy was part of a rural youth group.

The United States government spent a lot of money on each volunteer as part of the Peace Corps, which still exists today. More than 200,000 of us participated in the Peace Corps and we went to 84 different countries. There are quite a few former volunteers from Bemidji who participated in the Peace Corps, which was founded in 1961 by John Kennedy.

If you were to ask each of us if we made a difference in the world in terms of promoting peace, you would find some hesitation before receiving an answer something like, “I hope so.” I can’t say for certain that we made a difference in our host country but as a result of the Peace Corps, many people do hold a more positive view of Americans.

The Peace Corps did make a difference in each of us. We are certainly more aware of the need for peace in the world and have become promoters of peace.

Ethiopia: Amicable Ties That Bind
The Ethiopian Herald, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

…Ethiopia was one of the first countries to invite Peace Corps to establish its programme in 1962, just one year after the Peace Corps was founded. Peace Corps -Ethiopia is one of the oldest Peace Corps programmes. The first group of Volunteers arrived in Ethiopia in September, 1962, with 279 secondary school teachers. Volunteers worked in both secondary and vocational/technical schools, with others working in the health, small business, rural development, law, and agriculture sectors.

From 1962 to 1977, Peace Corps Ethiopia was one of the largest Peace Corps programmes in the world. More than 3,000 Volunteers served in the country before it terminated the programme in 1977 due to the unstable political situation. In 1991, the Marxist regime in power since 1974 was overthrown. The new government requested Peace Corps' return and in 1995, some 25 Peace Corps Volunteers arrived as secondary school English teachers.

The Peace Corps has been involved in almost every facet of Ethiopia's development over the past decades, making contributions in the fields of education, health, rural development, and small business development. In total, nearly 3,500 volunteers had served in Ethiopia. Currently, all volunteers live and work in the Amhara, Oromia, Southern Nations, or Tigray in three different sectors.

IN GOD WE TRUST

The Buffet Rule.
We must support this...pass it on and let us see if these idiots understand
what people pressure is all about.
- Salary of retired US Presidents . . . . . . . . . . . . $180,000 FOR LIFE
- Salary of House/Senate members . . . . . . …. . $174,000 FOR LIFE
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..this is stupid
- Salary of Speaker of the House . . . . . . . …… . . $223,500 FOR LIFE
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… This is really stupid
- Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders . . . . . . . . $193,400 FOR LIFE Ditto last line
Average Salary of a teacher . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $40,065
Average Salary of a deployed Soldier. .. . . . . $38,000
I think we found where the cuts should be made! If you agree pass it on, I just did.
Warren Buffet, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:
"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC.” "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.”

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months
& 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.
Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become
the law of the land - all because of public pressure.
Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on
their address list; in turn ask each of those to dolikewise.
In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one
idea that really should be passed around.
Congressional Reform Act of 2014
1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may no be used for any
other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/14. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.

Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person
contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Don't you think it's time?
THISIS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS! If you agree, pass it on. If not, delete. You are one of my 20+ - Please keep it going, and thanks!
BLESSED IS THE NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD
Marcus Psalm 33:12
I breathe as Your peace, all through this day.
If I receive news that is unsettling, I breathe peace into everyone involved. I breathe peace into every aspect of the circumstances.
If I am with someone who is upset, I breathe peace for me and I breathe peace for he them.
As I try to get things back on track, I breathe peace to connect with wisdom, strength, courage and love. I let Your spirit guide my actions.
I as breathe your Peace, I let it permeate every aspect of my existence. I imagine Your peace infilling me, now and always.
Thank You, Sweet Presence of Peace. And so it is. Amen!
