We are a community college with a music department featuring many opportunities for music majors wishing to take courses, lessons, and ensembles and transfer to a 4-year institution to finish a BA/BM degree. Our Applied Music classes offer weekly applied music lessons and master class with recitals each semester for music majors that pass the entrance audition and enroll in the mandatory Music The

ory & Ear Training and Piano basic skills classes plus an ensemble (required of all music majors at any institution). Currently, we have full & part time music faculty offering lessons in Classical Voice, Jazz & Classical Saxophone, Classical Guitar, Percussion (Classical Percussion or Jazz Drumset & Jazz Vibes), Jazz Guitar, Jazz Bass, Jazz & Classical Piano. Music Majors can study composition and take classes in the Electronic Music Studio learning up to date aspects of digital & analog music production, engineering & editing as well as composition. We have a full compliment of Music Theory and Ear Training courses and our Maas Computer Lab is open to all Music Majors to work on ear training and music theory assignments. Our Performance Ensembles include: Vocal Ensemble, Classical Guitar Ensemble, World Music Ensemble (world percussion), Jazz Big Band, and Jazz Ensemble (small jazz ensemble). Our additional music courses include: Introduction to Music, World Music, Jazz History, History of Rock Music, Asian & Pacific Music, Music in the United States, Music of The Beatles, Music in Latin America & North America, Music, the Arts & Society, Rap Music & Hip Hop Culture, Music of California, Women in Music, Piano Class, Voice Class, Guitar Class, Music Technology (9 different courses), Composition & Music for Elementary School Teachers. The Recital Hour features weekly musical performances showcasing talented students, masterful faculty, musicians of the local community and performers of world renown in a venue for quality concerts for students, campus and community each semester. Scholarships are available for qualified Music Majors and our tuition is very affordable at just $46.00 per credit for CA residents. Students also have available to them fully equipped practice rooms and ensemble performance spaces including many piano practice rooms, and rooms for percussion, voice, guitar, and jazz instrumentalist practice. We are located in beautiful San Diego, California surrounded by natural beauty and close to the thriving downtown area where a variety of professional music opportunities are for concerts and performances in a variety of genre. Our Story

San Diego Mesa College Music Department is part of the School of Arts & Languages at San Diego Mesa College in California. (Applied Music Program) offers weekly applied music lessons and master class with 4 recitals each semester for music majors that pass the entrance audition and enroll in the mandatory Recital Hour, Music Theory & Ear Training and Piano basic skills classes plus an ensemble (required of all music majors at any institution). Currently, we have full & part time music faculty offering lessons in Classical Voice, Jazz & Classical Saxophone, Classical Guitar, Percussion (Classical Percussion or Jazz Drumset & Jazz Vibes), Jazz Guitar, Jazz Bass, and Jazz & Classical Piano.

Our department also has a number of music tutors for nearly every class!

Our Performance Ensembles include: Choir, Guitar Ensemble, World Music Ensemble (world percussion), Jazz Big Band, and Jazz Ensemble (small jazz ensemble). Additionally, there are ensembles available through our Continuing Education Program including The New City Sinfonia and The Seratones Mixed Voice Chorus (these ensembles do not count for graduation credit). The Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra is also in residence at San Diego Mesa College.
