We are absolutely thrilled to announce the long-awaited Spring return of Wordnight!
Join us on March 19th and April 30th at Booksmith on Haight for a night of inspiration and community!

For those unfamiliar with Wordnight: it’s a reading series created for USF’s MFA students and undergraduates to share their poetry, nonfiction, fiction, and everything in between. Our goal is to foster connections within our campus community and beyond through art, writing, and shared experiences.

If you’ve never had the chance to read your work publicly, this is the perfect moment to step into the spotlight! Each reader will have up to five minutes to share their piece, so be sure to sign up quickly before all the slots fill up!

You can reserve your seat as an audience member & sign up using the links on our Instagram! 📗📚

We are forever grateful to Booksmith for keeping their doors open for us on these nights, reflecting their commitment to literary exploration and community. Please consider supporting them by browsing their selection and purchasing any books you can, as this helps ensure their continued support for our events in the future!! 📚❤️💕

Our department is excited to be sponsoring this Critical Diversity Studies department event alongside Chicanx/Latinx Studies in the continuation of our celebration of Latine Heritage.

On Thurs. Oct. 19, 12:45-2:30pm in ED 110, we will be joined by Fernando Martí, a writer, printmaker, community architect and housing activist. He has been deeply involved in San Francisco’s struggles for affordable housing, ecological justice and the reclamation of the commons since the mid-90s. His illustrations, prints, and constructions reflect his formal training in urbanism, his roots in rural Ecuador, and his current residence in the heart of Empire. He currently teaches a seminar on San Francisco Housing Politics in USF's Masters of Urban and Public Affairs program.

"Arte y Futurismo in the Dark Times" will engage students on methods of politically engaged art in collaboration with grassroots community and worker organizations, developing artworks that both reclaim ancestral knowledge and re-imagine a collective liberatory future.

You can explore some of Martí’s fantastic artwork at: https://justseeds.org/artist/fernandomarti/
