USF Asian Studies Program Welcome to the University of San Francisco's Asian Studies page! Feel free to stop by the program office in KA 333 and say hello!

The Asian Studies degree program, administered by the University of San Francisco's Center for Asia Pacific Studies, is offered in the College of Arts and Sciences to all students. The degree advances understanding of the increasingly powerful countries of Asia by focusing not only on the structures of society--its histories, laws, economies, and governments--but also on the religious, philosophic

al, artistic, and intellectual foundations for these structures. The program also emphasizes the relationship between natural and man-made environments, as well as the University's commitment to social justice, ethics, and human rights. Graduates with a degree in Asian Studies will be in demand in such fields as international business, education, media and communications, government services, law, nongovernmental organizations, international development organizations, and international consulting.

The Center for Asia Pacific Studies is accepting applications for the 2021-2022 Asia Bridge Junior Fellowship! Current USF undergraduates who are interested in conducting research about issues vital to our understanding of the Asia Pacific both historically and today are encouraged to apply. Fellows will gain the skills needed to succeed in their future careers as they participate in community-building events, work with mentors in the field, and learn the essentials of researching, writing, and public speaking—ultimately producing a 12-15-page research paper at the end of the year. Fellows will also receive a $500 award upon completing all program requirements!

Extended Deadline: Monday, September 27, 2021

The Center for Asia Pacific Studies and the Asian Studies Program at the University of San Francisco are pleased to announce the recipients of the center's Asian Studies Merit Fellowship for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Congratulations to Evan Chan, Emma DeBow, and Priscilla Kim Ong! We see great potential in this year's recipients and are excited to see how they will contribute to promoting greater understanding of the Asia Pacific in the future.

SPECIAL EVENT: Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 19th at 5 p.m. in the Del Santo Reading Room, Lone Mountain 270, the Honors College will host a special reading by Li-Young Lee, one of America's important living poets. He is the author of five poetry collections, including 'Rose and The City in Which I Love You,' and a memoir, 'The Winged Seed: A Remembrance.' Lee has received a Guggenheim and NEA fellowships, among other awards.

* Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES)*
HES offers opportunities for Mandarin Chinese learners, including beginners, to study at an accredited Mandarin center from 2 to 12 months in a university in Taiwan. The scholarship provides a monthly stipend of NT$25,000 (Exchange rate Approx.: 1 US = 30 NT).

TS allows American students to undertake degree studies from 2 to 4 years in Taiwan. The awards include tuition and allowance.
