SVA GOOGLE RESUME WORKSHOP NEAR YOU

“The resume workshop at Google was the best I’ve been to since separating from the Army in 2009. The Googlers who graciously volunteered their time were phenomenal.”
- Joe Quiggle, University of San Francisco, prior workshop participant

Jobs at AmeriCorps VISTA in Oakland
The Legal Aid Association of California (LAAC) is the statewide membership organization for almost 100 legal nonprofits.
As a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA, you will increase access to civil justice by pushing forward technological tools with a network of volunteers and legal services nonprofits. The AmeriCorps VISTA will design the logical and technical framework for a legal expert system (“system”) with some content supported by volunteers. The system is an online program that, through a series of guided questions, selects the legal information an individual needs to solve serious legal problems in housing and for veterans.
Located in Oakland, the AmeriCorps VISTA will report to the Program Attorney and will work closely with other program staff.
Key Responsibilities (percentages are approximate and may change as needed):
Technological Design (40%)
• Identifying Best Practices: Discuss the project with LawHelp statewide websites, legal aid organizations, Georgetown Law, Vanderbilt Law, A2J Author, QnA Markup, and Neota Logic. Make recommendations for a vendor or partner.
• System Development: Construct the navigation for the system using logical thinking for target audiences with different circumstances.
• Project Management: Develop a manual for using the selected software, provide basic troubleshooting, and collaborate with the development team.
Volunteer Recruitment (35%)
• Law Students: Visit law schools and communicate with public service staff and student groups to find, train, and retain law student volunteers.
• Tech Experts: Recruit consultants with technical proficiency in any aspect of the project to provide guidance to the system development.
• Supervising Attorneys: Find supervising attorneys with substantive knowledge of the system’s legal content.
Marketing and Outreach (20%)
• Media: Leverage traditional media, new media, and social media to introduce the system to potential users.
• In-person Meetings: Meet with community service providers who will share the system with potential users.
• User Testing: Survey the community need and response before, during, and after system development.
Capacity-building (5%)
• Data Analysis: Package project data for reporting, grant proposals, and fundraising pitches
You need:
• B.A., B.S., or A.A. with additional relevant experience
• Information technology, data analysis, technical research, or software experience
• Project management and/or volunteer recruitment experience
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to assess technological tools and troubleshoot problems
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team
• Expertise in Word, Excel, Google applications, online databases
• Previous experience working with low-income and underserved communities preferred
We offer:
• Housing stipend ($10,000/year)

• Relocation allowance (up to $1000 based on distance)
• Education loan forbearance/deference
• Additional AmeriCorps benefits: https://vistacampus.gov/in-service/benefits-service
Application: Send (1) a cover letter with a detailed explanation of your qualifications and why you are a match for this; (2) your resume; (3) three references; and (4) a writing sample of no more than 3 pages via email to the Senior Program Coordinator at [email protected]. From Swords to Plowshares:

Celebrating and Honoring Military Children
April is military child month when the children of service members are recognized for the sacrifices they face so their parents can serve. There are a multitude of programs that support military children like Military OneSource or Operation Military Kids. Even Sesame Workshop Project started “Talk, Listen, Connect” to increase awareness for issues military children live with on a daily basis. These programs are in place to show that we support all our service members, the ones who wear the boots and the ones they wear the boots for.

DoDEA joins the Department of Defense and the military community in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child.
