Would you like to get involved with SFCM's Pride Network? We are a close group of students on campus that come together to advocate for and celebrate the LGBT+ community. It is a safe space for members of the q***r community and an outlet through which issues can be listened to and addressed.

The Pride Network is currently a smaller club, but we are aiming to expand into a larger group and include more of the LGBT+ students on campus. If you or someone you know is interested in joining a group like this, there are opportunities for you! Whether a member or a leader, the Pride Network would love to have you. Currently, we are looking for invested and enthusiastic students to apply for leadership positions within the club.

Please check out the Google form and fill it out if you are interested in participating! If you are unsure about whether or not you would be a good fit for one of the positions listed, apply anyways! We would love to have your participation whether it is in a leadership role or not.

At age 5, Norman Malone discovered he was a natural at the piano. Tragically, when Norman turned 10, he was attacked and left paralyzed on his right side. Undaunted, Malone began a lifelong quest to reclaim his place at the piano--mastering some of the most difficult music ever written for left hand alone–-and never telling anyone of his deepening virtuosity. Not until he was 78 did he reveal his story (to the Chicago Tribune), prompting belated invitations to perform. Nearly 70 years after he was paralyzed, Malone realizes a long-delayed dream--to perform with a symphony orchestra.

This film is a part of our DEI initiatives and speaks to many things such as racism, ableism but also to perseverance and love of music.  It is a truly compelling story about Norman Malone.

In addition, 2 of the film's producers, Gordon Quinn and Howard Reich (former music critic for the Chicago Tribune) will be in attendance and will lead a discussion following the film.

Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present and aware in the current moment. In Mindfulness Group, we will be engaging in guided group meditations, discussions, and other mindfulness exercises, with the goal of building a practice that transforms our everyday experience. This practice helps us expand our awareness of our bodies while performing, listen more sincerely in conversations, build empathy, and handle our emotions. Drop in to as many sessions in a week as you like. There's no experience necessary, and you can also set up private sessions! Contact [email protected] if you have any questions or would like more information.

Check out the Recording Club every Friday from 5:30-7:30! The goal is to provide students or student ensembles with quality recordings while also helping them learn how to record different instruments.

Each week we will set up recording sessions together based on requests in advance - whether it's getting a recording of yourself, learning about a particular aspect of recording or even experimenting with recording techniques and equipment. The sessions will be casual and educational, so bring questions! We will set up time slots for each person to record each week depending on interest. Please let us know if you'd like to have something recorded in advance using the form below, just so that we can plan our sessions better. Also, feel free to reach out to Chanho or Udit if you have any further questions! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeCSJB9adco1ZnEQned_4aojbIC_fbXEIqPAcz4eRJOYRMQPQ/viewform
