USF Environmental & Outdoors Club Yet, we also stress that our addiction to fossil fuels is having dire impacts on people—specifically, the most marginalized communities of the world.

Our Mission Statement:

The USF Environmental Justice and Outdoors Club aims to educate students about the issues facing our environment and all of its inhabitants, with the basic goal of cultivating a commitment to environmental stewardship and overall climate justice. We are attuned to the plight that our ecosystems must endure in the face of the climate crisis, and use hikes and camping trips t

o foster a deeper connection with our natural environment. As the generation that must deal with this crisis, we are dedicated to finding new ways to connect with others in order to overcome the cultural boundaries that have made few benefitting at the expense of many an acceptable way to live. We acknowledge that our struggles intersect in some way with the struggles of all others, and thus stand in solidarity with each community and individual facing oppression as a result of our “profit-over-people” paradigm. We believe that through human connection and group contemplation, we can discover effective means of defending our future and the future of all others, so that it is not defined by the climate chaos that will ensue as a result of inaction. Through these methods, we can ultimately facilitate a paradigm shift into a way of life that is based on community and collaboration, and not competition and consumption.

Beautiful march underway in Ferguson, Missouri to build power in resistance to the white supremacist police force responsible for the death of Mike Brown and so many black and brown folks there, and across the nation.

It is far past due time for the climate movement to show up to the fight for true equity, which means confronting white supremacy and pushing hard for racial justice. This is what is happening in Ferguson this weekend, and what should be happening everywhere.
