Hastings to Haiti Partnership

Hastings to Haiti Partnership The Hastings to Haiti Partnership (HHP) works to advance the rule of law in Haiti by supporting legal education and working to enforce human rights.

HHP is a collaboration between the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and the L’École Supérieure Catholique de Droit de Jérémie (ESCDROJ), the Catholic Law School of Jérémie. Professors Karen Musalo and Richard Boswell established Hastings to Haiti and first traveled to Jérémie to support the newly founded law school in 1999. The delegation was expanded to include student member

s in 2000, first as an independent study, and in 2010 the classroom component of the organization became a two-credit seminar. And, since 2008, HHP has worked to make the partnership truly reciprocal, bringing Haitian students and lawyers to the U.S. to gain a comparative perspective to bring to their work at home.

Friends & family of HJP, we are asking for your urgent support amidst the unprecedented violence and uncertainty facing our dear Haitian colleagues.
🇭🇹
The current news from Haiti is truly devastating. Yet our partners at ESCDROJ remain undeterred—committed as ever to the mission of justice, equity, and to the advancement of human rights in Haiti. Your support is critical.
🇭🇹
Our delegation of students and colleagues from , , & recently returned from Mexico on a fact finding trip in response to shifts in U.S. and Mexico policies that trap migrants deep in Mexico. Our colleague from was sadly unable to safely exit Haiti due to the dismal circumstances gripping the country and was therefore unable to join us.
🇭🇹
However, he has relayed the remarkable message that, after only a brief closure, law clinic operations have already reopened in spite of the havoc being wrought on the Haitian people.
🇭🇹
Please consider donating today—we will send all donations as quickly as possible and within the next several days to support the incredible efforts of ESCDROJ.
🇭🇹

Thank you to the many who joined us to hear from our partners at ESCDROJ last week. It was such a pleasure to have Dean Jomanas Eustache and Professor Yvon Janvier with us!

While we hold the joy and hope of the last week in our hearts, we are sorrowed by images of yet another disaster striking dear Jérémie. This morning, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake wreaked havoc on the Grand’Anse, the impact only exacerbated by recent flooding due to heavy rains. We are staying in close communication with our partners and are thankful for their immediate safety. But we know there are many challenges to come in the days and weeks ahead.

Please join us in supporting ESCDROJ and the Jérémie community during this time of need by donating at the link in our bio. We will send donations made in the next several days as quickly as possible to support Father Jomanas’ herculean efforts to run the law school and buoy the whole community in his reach.

Men anpil, chay pa lou. (Many hands make the load light) 🇭🇹
