Imagine having a critically acclaimed graphic novelist as your personal mentor. In our low-residency MFA program, masters of the art form will work with you to perfect your writing and drawing skills, while you study everything from comics theory to publication design. It’s a big month for Maia Kobabe (), MFA Comics Alum ‘15! On May 5, eir new middle grade graphic novel written with Lucky Srikumar (.comix) debuted. We’re so excited for this important story to find the souls who need to be seen. Also, next week, the famous Gender Q***r is updated with an extended annotated version published by Simon & Schuster! Including several contributions by the CCA community (, , , , and ), it’s an expansive update to an important book of our history. To celebrate the end of the academic year, the CCA Comics BFA and MFA students joined forces to make our 2026 Zine Yearbook together! Everyone carved a little block-printing self portrait and stamped them into the pages of our annual yearbook zine.

Our very own (MFA Comics ‘27) will debut her book Magic Up at (Festival BD de Montréal / Montréal Comics and Arts Festival) this weekend! Developed throughout her first year in the MFA program, Magic Up is a full-color and timeless fairy tale that’s unfortunately all too real. Winter’s work is filled with incisive commentary juxtaposed with gorgeously rendered visuals. Check out her nonfiction piece in as well (previewed in slides 3 & 4). Huge congratulations to our BFA Comics Class of 2026 on an INCREDIBLE senior thesis comics reading, live on stage tonight at CCA!
